20168th Annual Outdoors Event

April 29-May 1, 2016 * Rockport, Texas

Mission Statement: To provide women who participate with a safe and fun environment in which to familiarize themselves with some of the many outdoor recreational opportunities in the Coastal Bend.

This is a T.O.W.N. (Texas Outdoors Woman Network) Rockport Chapter event- please or more information in regards to the event. Membership in TOWN is not required to participate; however, if you’d like to joinT.OW.N. Rockport Chapter pleasevisit

Entry fees-

  • Early Registration - $135.00 per participant for entries received prior to March 1
  • Regular Registration - $160 per participant for entries marked March 1- March 31
  • Late Registration - $175 per participant for entries postmarked after April 1
  • Online registration option will open on Feb. 1 and will have an additional $6 service charge for processing costs
  • Event is limited to ladies 18 and up and there are a limited number of spots available.
  • Event location is Port Bay Hunting Club310 Port Bay Road, Rockport, Texas 78382.

Entry fee includes participation in four (4) of the listed events, a bag full of goodies, dinner on Saturday night at the mixer, lunch and snacks onSaturday and Sunday and non-alcoholic beverages throughout. If you have specific dietary needs please feel free to bring your own meals and/or drinks. Once your registration is received an informational packet will be sent via email to you as confirmation of your registration. Your final class list will not be released until you arrive at check in.

This is a day camp situation, lodging is not provided. If you need overnight lodging there are many great hotels and cottages that you may reserve in Rockport.Please check out the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce at

Check in: Will be held at Poor Man’s Country Club on Friday April 29from 5-8:30pm. Late check in will be held on Saturday April 30 from 7-7:45am at Port Bay Hunting Club. We will be starting at 7:45am SHARP.

Event Schedule

Saturday:

  • Start time is 7:45am at Port Bay Hunting Club. We will start with a group photo and some quick instructions for the day. Please be on time so that you are included in the group photo. We will then disperse to scheduled stations with an outdoor lunch break,and will end at approximately at 2:30pm. We will have a guest speaker during our lunch break.
  • Social will be from 6-9:30pm at Poor Man’s Country Club. Join us for raffle drawings, a good time, some shopping from some local store booths and other fun surprises at this year’s social. We will be serving you dinner starting at 6:45pm. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided and alcohol will be available for purchase.

Sunday:

  • Start time is 7:45am. We will meet quickly and then disperse to scheduled stationsand then meet up for a late lunch and a lunchtime speaker and event wrap up. We plan on going until 2pm.

Equipment – Sensible shoes are a must, this event is on a large outdoor grass area, not on pavement, and walking will be required. Long pants are a good idea to combat mosquitoes. Please bring a lawn chair, jacket, sunglasses, hat, etc.

Weather - Please be sure to dress for the weather especially if participating in the kayaking. The water may still be cool and the weather may be as well. This event will not be canceled unless the weather is severe and we will shift events as needed to accommodate the weather.

Cancellation Policy – A refund of 100% will be given to all cancelations prior to 3/1. Any cancellations from 3/1-3/31 will get a refund minus a $35 fee. There will be no refunds for cancellations after 4/1.

2015 Courses Offered:

Firearms

Learn about firearm safety, how to work a shotgun, and shoot clay targets. B.B. guns will be offered for anyone but especially for those who have never fired a long gun. Skeet is a great sport and popular all over the world. You may bring your own shotgun but remember to bring your own ammo. The weapon must be unloaded until told to load at the station.This is open to all levels. Each participant will be given a select amount of shells to shoot (2 boxes). Additional boxes will be available to purchase.

Intro to Archery

Learn the basics of this ancient skill whether you would like to one day take a deer or would rather just target practice. This is open to all levels.

Intermediate/Advanced Archery

This is for anyone who has previously taken one of our introductory Archery classes at WIW. In this class we will focus on enhancing your skills while shooting at tougher targets. This is a more advanced class and is not open to beginners.

Self Defense

Receive basic instruction in how to take precautions and protect yourself from intended harm. The course is taught by the Aransas County Sheriff’s Department with hands-on demonstrations. This is open to all levels.

Fishing- Basic

This course teaches the basics of how to get ready for fishing. Instructor will teach how to tie knots to secure a hook, different reel and bait options, how to cast and much more. This is open to all levels.

Fishing- Advanced (COUNTS AS 2 CLASSES)

Here’s the bay now what? Seminar will identify ideal conditions and indicators when bay fishing, bait options, and tackle options. We will be practicing fishing with artificial baits in the water. We will be wade fishing so please bring clothing that can get wet. You MUST have a valid fishing license to take this class. This course is for advanced participants that have mastered casting a bait casting reel.

Boat Equipment & Operation (COUNTS AS 2 CLASSES)

This course will be a four hour block of instruction and take up two of your selections. One course will teach how to identify parts on a boat, required safety equipment, and rules of the road. The second part of the course will give participants a chance to operate the vessel.

Kayaks

Basic and Advanced course, skill level to be determined by instructor during the class. Want an inexpensive way to get out in the bay? Try the basic course on safety and operation of kayaks with participants receiving practical hands on experience. Once again the water may be cool and the weather may be as well, so dress appropriately and if you have waders please bring them. Participants will have to walk in the water and may get wet sitting in the kayak so bring a change of footwear and clothes. This is open to all levels.

Geocaching

Geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online. Learn about this exciting way to get outdoors. This is open to all levels.

Outdoor Photography (counts as 2 classes)

Learn how to take great outdoor photos with any camera. Local photographer and photography instructor Maria Nesbit will be teaching you how to take great photos with a few tricks. You will spend your morning shooting photos and afternoon learning to do some basic photo editing.

Intro Dutch Oven Cooking

Participants will learn how to cook desserts and entrees in this traditional way of cooking. A wonderful skill utilized when cooking in the outdoors. This is open to all levels.

Game Processing

Learn how to fillet a fish, breast out a bird, and gut a hog as taught by our Game Wardens. This is open to all levels.

Nature Interaction

Learn about the world around you. We will be seining, taking a nature walk and learning to identify different species of animals, flowers and more on the property. This will be very hands on opportunity to learn about the coastal eco-system. Please wear pants and closed toe shoes for this event. This is open to all levels.

Intro Outdoor Survival

Ever wondered how to survive if you were stranded on the side of road, out in the wilderness or while out fishing? Learn in this class some basic survival skills. This is open to all levels.

Arts & Crafts

Much like Painting with the Twist, ladies will enjoy spending time painting nautical/beach themed artwork. This is open to all levels and will be a fun laid back class.

Trailer Backing

Learn how to hook up, back up and maneuver various types of trailers including a boat trailer. Open to all levels.

Intro to Hunting

Interested in hunting but just don’t know where to start? Learn about different types of hunting (duck, deer, hog and archery) and how to get started. Class will cover equipment, clothing, calls, hunting etiquette and more. Open to all levels.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is the newest water recreation activity. Learn how to use a board and enjoy some time out on the water. Open to all levels. All participants must know how to swim and feel comfortable in the water.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding Yoga

Learn how to take your love of SUP and learn some basic yoga poses. It’s a great workout and is open to all levels. You must be comfortable in the water and able to swim.

Nautical

Learn how to read a star chart and use the stars for navigation. Class will also cover use of a compass, knot tying and more. Open to all levels.
