  1. Introductions and matters arising

All introduced themselves. No matters arising from last minutes.

  1. Recent activity in WLI Asia (all)

Mai Po - KFEM will send a group of students to Mai Po for 2 days during November, as part of the WLI partnership. Mai Po has also drawn up an MoU with Guandu nature park, Taipei, Taiwan, focussing on staff training. NW will go out to sign the MoU and then take a study tour to Shanghai.

WWF China will be working through Shanghai office to produce a wetland training manual, focusing on interpretation for centres, which will be sent out to all Chinese wetland centres. CR offered WWT/WLI help if needed.

Sungei Buloh – Masterplan for the reserve was completed on the 24th of August. Then 2 centres to be opened, the first in March 2013, second in December 2013. They are also using wireless technology to improve the interp on site. CR asked about wetland Apps, as previously discussed with SC. MT said that they did theirs with QR codes, from website which allowed them to do it with no development costs.

SC – has made efforts to set up a regional sub-group of EAAFP, but not yet functioning. SB have just signed an MoU with South Korean partners at Suncheon. SB have now got 4 video cameras on site – now working out how to put the feed onto the website.

HK Wetland Park – Students have just been to SB, and some colleagues also visited the London Wetland Centre. Also, the Korean Suncheon group came to visit the park.

Tzan – Suncheon City has agreed to hold the WLI Asia conference at the new International Wetland Centre, at the beginning of the Suncheon Garden Expo, aiming for the 19th of April for the launch. This will combine a WLI Asia meeting with themes on ecosystem evaluation. Likely to be held over 3 days.

  1. Update from EAAFP on CEPA and how WLI / EAAFP can work better together

To be discussed next time with Yuna. But initial comments showed that this would be a great way particularly to deliver the CEPA strategy for EAAFP.

  1. WLI Asia conference plans (Zi, Tzan-hyuk, KFEM)

See above. ZTH to send out plans for this once finalised. NW suggested that the earlier we get dates / format agreed, the more chance that partners will have to raise funds / put aside time. ZTH has put in a bid to the Korean Green Foundation, so there might be some funding support.

SC said that the next EAAFP MoP7 in Alaska is likely to be around the same time – CR checked and Alaska meeting will take place 8-14 June 2013.

  1. AOB and date of next meeting
