Hajdúszoboszló is situated 202 kms from Budapest, in the north-east of the Great Plain. It is within easy reach along the Budapest- Záhony main railway line or by car and coach along main roads no. 4, 3 and 33-partly on a motorway. Nearby is the joining point of three main areas: the Hajdúhát from north-northeast, the hortobágy, 'the glorious plain' from north-northwest and theGreat Sárrét, the sorroundings of the River Berettyó from the south. Apart from the good soil, medical water and the natural gas the comes to the surface here, the treasure of the area is the huge amount of sunshine. The most important sight of the town is the medicinal bath known across Europe, the history of which goes back to ever 70 years ago.The microklimate of the environs of the bath with its iodic and salty humidity exerts a benefical influence on recovery.

Guests visiting here can discover for themselves the sights and the gastronomyof the area. A very important landmark in the history of the town is the year 1606, when István Bocskai, Prince os Transylvania-whose statue is erected on the mainsquare of the town-settled down the heyducks here on an area totally destroyed by the Mongols. Hence the first part of the name of the town 'hajdú', which was given to numerous settlements in the 19th century ruins in classicist style. Regarding the chatolic church it must be mentioned that Pope John Paul II. visited it when he was still an archbishop. In the garden of the reformed church stands the bronze bust of reformer pedagogue Pál Göncy (1817 - 1892), alongside with a World War I monument. The remains of a fortress running along the church belong to the most precious relics of the town. The town is famous for a folk tradition called 'csergetés' (herdsmen cracking their lashes chasing away the old year in the treets on new years eve). Exhibitions showing the folk art of the Hajdúság area open to the public in the town museum situated in the vicinty of the baroque church in Bocskai sreet opening from Heroes Square. In Gönczy Pál strret leading to the Hortobágy the stately building of the Technical school can be found. In its garden a monument reminds town dwellers of the heyduks who died during a 17th century Turkish revenge massacre called Seidi massacre. Nearby stands the Pottery museum in which visitors can see the works of the folk artist István Fazekas, a representative of the famous black pottery of Nádudvar. Historical and ethnographical records in the town abound. The tourist who visits the places mentioned above will anjoy the pleasure and excitement of discovery.

On 25 October, 1925 a miracle took place in the small town of Hajdúszoboszló. While searching for hydrocarbones, a 73 Co thermal spring, with a healing power that was proved shortly afterwards, was found 1090 meters below the surface. It is Ferenc Pávai Vajna, a distinguished geologist, the 'father' of your thermal water, who is to be thanked for finding this wonder of nature that has been sewing mankind for more than seventy years now.
