Mr. Rouvin Seah:
Dear Parents/Guardians, September 6, 2016

With school now underway, I am excited to see what this year will bring for the Beginner Band, Advanced Band, Jazz Band and Concert Choir!
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of expectations/procedures/scheduling for the year, so please read through all of the information carefully:

1)For Beginner Band, Advanced Band, and Jazz Band, students need to arrive to rehearsals on timeand ready to play at 7:30am. Rehearsals are short, so every minute counts! Please have your son/daughter arrive at 7:20am so they have enough time to set up their space and instrument. Rehearsal times for the Concert Choir are still being determined.

2)Concert attire will remain the same as last year.
PLEASE NOTE: students will not be allowed to perform if they do not have the proper concert attire.
Boys:
Top: long-sleeved white shirt (no t-shirts, logos, stripes, off-white)
Bottom: black dress pants or black jeans; black socks; solid black shoes

Girls:

Top: long-sleeved white shirt (no t-shirts, tank tops, logos, stripes, off-white)

Bottom: black dress pants or black jeans; black dress or skirt; black leggings/tights/stockings; black socks; black shoes or flats (basically no skin should be showing from the waist down)

All students should have white from the waist up, and black from the waist down. Uniformity is key. We want to look as professional as possible. Your son/daughter will be given a vest to wear as well.
Please make a cheque out to “Maillard Middle School” in the amount of $50.00 and post-date it for June 1, 2017. Please also print (neatly) your son/daughter’s first and last name on the cheque, in PENCIL. The cheque will be returned to you/shredded at the end of the year when your son/daughter returns their vest. In the case that a vest goes missing or is damaged, the $50.00 will be used to replace the vest.

3)Every student is required to practice (this includes all band members and choir members). Everyone is responsible for practicing and learning their music to the best of their abilities. There will NOT be practice journals this year.
Recommended practice amounts (minimum):
Beginner Band: 15-20 minutes a day, 5 days a week (~75 mins a week)
Advanced Band: 20-30 minutes a day, 5 days a week (~100 mins a week)
Jazz Band: 20-30 minutes a day, 5 days a week (~100 mins a week)
Concert Choir: Approx. 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week (~60 mins a week)
