With membership comes specific responsibilities which have been outlined by the Faculty Advisory Council of the Ford Chapter of NJHS. Please consider them carefully before you sign.

MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Attendance

1.  Regular attendance at meetings and induction is required.

2.  General meetings will be held once a nine weeks. (the second week of each nine weeks)

3.  In accordance with the Bylaws, failure to attend meetings and induction without prior approval from the advisor(s) may result in probation or impending dismissal from the chapter. In particular, when a student incurs his/her first unexcused absence from a chapter meeting, he/she will be issued a warning note. After the second unexcused absence, he/she will be placed on probation and upon the third unexcused absence, the student will be issued an impending dismissal notice from NJHS. Members seeking an excuse from a meeting must submit their request IN WRITING to the advisor(s) at least one day in advance of legitimate school absence or note the day the student returns from unplanned absence (following school guidelines) or sponsored excused extracurricular activity.

Scholarship and Character

1.  Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 93.00 and outstanding/satisfactory conduct grades.

2.  The Faculty Advisory Council has determined that only ONE period of probation will be permitted for academic improvement during a student’s membership in the chapter of NJHS. When a student’s cumulative average falls below the required 93.00, he/she will be warned. On a second offense the student will be placed on probation for a nine-weeks period. If there is a third offense, the student will be issued an impending dismissal notice from NJHS.

3.  Outstanding/satisfactory conduct is required. Excessive detentions, ISS, or OSS assignments will be reviewed by the Faculty Advisory Council and will result in automatic probation or dismissal from membership.

Service

1.  Under the NJHS national guidelines, each chapter must do service projects in which each member must be actively involved. In addition, each student shall have the responsibility of choosing and participating in individual service projects which reflect his/her own particular talents and interests.

2.  All members are required to join one of the committees of this chapter and are strongly encouraged to tutor to earn 12 points of service work for each nine weeks of their membership on this campus.

(One point represents one hour of service. Members may also elect to do individual services within the school or community if their projects are approved by the advisor(s) beforehand. Each member is responsible for keeping his service portfolio current and ready to produce if asked. Students may accumulate more points per six weeks than required, but service points do not carry over to following nine-week periods.

3.  If a member does not complete the required points or service for a semester, he/she shall be warned, penalized an additional five points, and extended a marking period to satisfy the service commitment. If he/she does not accomplish the commitment during the next marking period, he/she will be put on probation for the next marking period. If, at the end of that marking period, he/she still has not satisfied the service requirement, the member will be dismissed from NJHS.
