WITH JUST 100 DAYS TO GO, SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

ST. LOUIS– The Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid will begin 100 days from this Sunday, February 10. To celebrate the milestone date, the Championship has compiled a list of the “Top 100 Facts” pertaining to the Senior PGA Championship, the PGA of America, KitchenAid, Bellerive and golf in general.

SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Senior PGA Championship was first played in 1937 and was established to provide an opportunity to PGA members 50 years of age and older to compete with their peers.
  2. The Senior PGA Championship is the oldest and most prestigious major championship in senior golf.
  3. At the suggestion of renowned amateur Bobby Jones, the inaugural Senior PGA Championship was played at Augusta National Golf Club three years after the first Masters Tournament was held there.
  4. The purse for first Senior PGA Championship was $2,000.
  5. Each Senior PGA Championship from 1940 through 2000 was played in Florida.
  6. From 1982 to 2000, the Championship was contested at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
  7. Players compete for the famed Alfred S. Bourne Trophy.
  8. The Bourne Trophy is the largest of all The PGA of America trophies.
  9. The Bourne Trophy stands 42 inches high, weighs 36 pounds and is 18 inches wide.
  10. Alfred Severin Bourne donated a check of $1,500to go toward the creation of a Senior PGA Championship trophy.
  11. Bourne was one of the original members of Augusta National Golf Club.
  12. The 2012 Defending Champion is Roger Chapman from England.
  13. Roger Chapman also won the 2012 U.S. Senior Open.
  14. Jock Hutchinson won the first Senior PGA Championship in 1937.
  15. Sam Snead has the most Senior PGA Championship titles, winning the event six times. (1964, ’65, ’67, ’70, ’72, ’73)
  16. Arnold Palmer is a two time winner. (1980, ’84)
  17. Hale Irwin is a four-time Senior PGA Champion. (1996, ’97, ’98, ’04)
  18. Jay Haas is a two-time Senior PGA Champion. (2006, ’08)
  19. Current Ryder Cup Team US Captain, Tom Watson, is a two-time Senior PGA Champion. (2001, ’11)
  20. The Senior PGA Championship field consists of a maximum of 156 players.
  21. In 1973, at the East Course at PGA National Golf Club, Sam Snead won his sixth Senior PGA Championship with a score of 20-under-par 268, a record that still stands today.
  22. There are over 2,000 volunteers for the 2013 Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid.
  23. For the last year, there has been a full-time staff working to plan the 74th Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid on-site at Bellerive Country Club.

KITCHENAID

  1. KitchenAid was started in1919 by The Hobart Corporation to produce stand mixers.
  2. The idea of a stand mixer was formulated by Herbert Johnson, an engineer working at the Hobart Corporation.
  3. In 1917, Hobart stand mixers became standard equipment on all U.S. Navy ships, prompting development to begin on the first home models.
  4. In 1918, company executives were alleged to be testing machines in their houses. "I do not care what you call it," one of the testers said, "all I know is it's the finest kitchen aid I've ever used." The stand mixer was redesigned to its current look in 1937.
  5. The first dishwasher was introduced in 1949.
  6. KitchenAid is owned by Whirlpool Corporation.
  7. Whirlpool’s headquarters are located in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

BELLERIVE

  1. Bellerive Country Club was founded in 1897 in North St. Louis.
  2. The Club is named after Louis St. Ange De Bellerive, the last French Commander in North America.
  3. Bellerive was designed by Robert Trent Jones.
  4. Bellerive Country Club is a private course.
  5. Bellerive’s Normandy course is now the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
  6. With the 2013 Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, Bellerive will become only the third club in the United States to host all four traveling men's professional major championships: PGA Championship, Senior PGA Championship, U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open.
  7. Bellerive hosted the 1992 PGA Championship where Nick Price won his first major.

GOLF
