This specification includes Husky Techtray Wire Mesh Cable Tray Systems, Wire Basket provides support for data comm, telecommunications, and fiber optic cabling. Wire Mesh tray is economical, quick to install, field adaptable, and best suited for light-duty cable support systems. Techtray wire mesh cable support systems are available in the following wire mesh material types: zinc plated, powder coated and 304 stainless steel.

1.4   DESIGN / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A.   Source Limitations: Obtain cable tray components through one source from a single manufacturer.

B.   Approval and Labeling: Provide cable trays and accessories specified in this Section that are approved and labeled.

1.   The Terms "Classified" pertaining to cable trays (rather than "Listed") and "Labeled": As defined in NFPA 70, Article 100.

2.   Listing and Labeling Agency Qualifications: A "Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory" as defined in OSHA Regulation 1910.7.

C.   Comply with NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, Article 392: Cable Trays; provide UL Classification and labels.

D.   Structural Performance: Cable trays shall be tested and rated for load carrying capacity and safety factors.

1.   Uniform Load Distribution: Capable of supporting a uniformly distributed load on the indicated support span when supported as a simple span and tested according to NEMA VE 1.

1.5   SUBMITTALS

A.   Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

B.   Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used.

1.   Indicate tray type, dimensions, support points, splices and finishes. Include loading information.

1.6   QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.   Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing Products specified in this section with minimum five years documented experience and ISO 9001 quality compliant.

B.   Preinstallation Meeting:

1.   Convene minimum one week prior to commencing work of this section.

2.   Convene prior to performing field measurements for fabrication drawings.

3.   Review proposed routing, sequence of installation, and protection requirements for installed cable trays and busway

1.7   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A.   Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

B.   Handle in accordance with NEMA VE-2 and manufacturer's written instructions.

C.   Protect from moisture by using appropriate coverings. Store in dry interior locations.

A.   Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

2.1   MANUFACTURERS

2.2   WIRE MESH TYPE CABLE TRAYS

A.   Product Description: MP Husky wire mesh cable tray system with its 2 inch by 4 inch grid system. Install in accordance with NEMA VE-2.

1.   Wire mesh cable tray system utilizes high mechanical strength steel wire welded into a grid system. Grid system is formed into channel trays that support and carry cables.

2.   Wire mesh cable tray is available in:

a.   Depths of 2 inches, 4 inches and 6 inches.

b.   Widths of 2 inches to 36 inches in 2 inch increments.

B.   Material and Construction:

1.   Wire mesh cable tray system is provided in 10 foot (3 m) lengths fabricated of:

a.   Zinc Plated ASTM B 633;

b.   Powder coated steel color as selected.

2.   Wire mesh shall be welded at all intersections.

3.   Wire mesh consists of a 2 inch by 4 inch grid system, and will utilize wires that have a minimum diameter of .16 inch (4 mm).

C.   Wire Mesh Cable Tray Sizing: Tray shall be of the width and depth indicated on the Drawings to provide the planned cable capacity.

1.   Calculate cable tray fill and size per National Electrical Code Article NEMA 392.

2.   Cable Trays may be filled 50 percent when using control or signal wiring. The sum of the cross sectional areas of all cables shall not exceed 50 percent of the trays fill area.

3.   Cable tray sizing equals the width times the loading depth. Generally, cable tray sizing is correct when it appears 50 percent full of cable or wire, or when it contains a 50 percent fill of cables or wire.

D.   Fasteners and Accessories:

1.   Provide wire mesh cable trays with dividers, quick splice connectors, bolt-staple set, lateral union set, bolt-net set, staple, SSC hold down, vertical splice plates, drop-out plates multi-union joints, conduit clamps and other accessories required for a complete installation.

2.   Provide with tray covers and solid bottom inserts where required.

3.   Provide wall mounts, wall supports, side hanger clips, wall brackets, supports and end plate reducers as required for a complete installation.

4.   Provide wall penetrations sleeves as indicated on the Drawings.

5.   Provide trapeze hangers, raised floor supports and grounding connectors as required for a complet

E.   Fittings. Fabricated in the field by cutting wires with a cutting device. Cuts shall be made in a manner reducing sharp edges and projections so they do not harm cables or installation personnel.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1   EXAMINATION

A.   Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B.   If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2   PREPARATION

A.   Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B.   Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3   INSTALLATION

A.   Install in accordance with in accordance with NEMA VE 2 and the manufacturer's instructions.

B.   Install as a complete system, including all necessary fasteners, and devices required for a complete system.

C.   Fabricate wire mesh cable trays in the field by cutting wires with a cutting device. Cuts shall be made in a manner reducing sharp edges and projections so they do not harm cables or installation personnel.

D.   When making radiused horizontal fittings, the outside of the cable tray wire tray is not cut. Only cut the bottom and the inside side of the cable tray. To remove a 4 inch row, cut the longitudinal wires between two transverse wires, on the bottom and inside of the bend. When removing more than the 4 inch row, a transverse wire will be removed for each additional row being removed. Once the proper number of rows have been removed, the inside wires are pulled together and joined using multi-union joint or cu-bfr splices. The next step would be to work on the fitting.

E.   For non-radiused horizontal bends, cut one side out of the adjoining cable tray wire and lay one tray on top of the other so they can be connected using the horizontal 90 splice kit. The trays need to be removed from the corners of the perpendicular piece.

F.   Horizontal Tees and Crosses. When making tees or crosses, the perpendicular bottom may be up against the straight through member. In this case, one side block is removed from all intersecting corners, so that the tee connector can form a radiused corner.

G.   If the perpendicular member is overlapped, one square on the bottom, then two sections need to be removed from the corners of the perpendicular piece. Vertical bends are made by cutting the upper side cable tray wires and bending the wire basket and mesh up or down.

H.   Install expansion connectors where cable tray crosses building expansion joint and in cable tray runs that exceed dimensions recommended in NEMA VE 2. Space connectors and set gaps according to NEMA VE 2.

I.   Make changes in direction, connections and elevation using manufacturer recommended fittings.

J.   Workspace: Install cable trays with enough space to permit access for installing cables.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Retain the following paragraph for metal tray systems only. Delete if not required.

K.   Ground and bond metal cable tray in accordance with NEMA VE-2.

1.   Provide continuity between tray components.

2.   Make connections to tray using mechanical, compression or exothermic connectors.

3.4   PROTECTION

A.   Protect installed products until completion of project.

1.   Repair damage to galvanized finishes with zinc-rich paint recommended by cable tray manufacturer.

2.   Repair damage to paint finishes with matching touchup coating recommended by cable tray manufacturer.

3.   Install temporary protection for cables in open trays to protect exposed cables from falling objects or debris during construction. Temporary protection for cables and cable tray can be constructed of wood or metal materials until the risk of damage is over.

B.   Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
