Meeting – October 21, 2014

Winfield Hall – Multipurpose Room

In Attendance: Trish Kramer, Jenn Matthews, Woody Johnson, Twyla Ricard, Ken Hutchinson, Jerry Drebert, Shane Norgaard, Vanessa Bosworth, Trudy Murray, Heather Matthews, Chad Kellgren, Mark Matthews

Meeting called to order at 6:32 pm.

Agenda approved by Twyla. Ken seconded.

Minutes from last meeting previously reviewed. Twyla accepted the minutes as reviewed.

Old Business

Raffle–Ken is waiting for proof from Ink Pot. Should receive by end of week.

- Jenn M will track tickets again this year.

- Target to distribute tickets to parents by October 28

Referee Clinic – still room available. Currently have 12 registered.

- Woody motioned that WMHA cover lunch costs for those registered. Twyla seconded. All in favor.

- On ice portion scheduled from 1315-1500. Initiation players will skate prior to clinic.

Boundaries – Jerry submitted WMHA boundary info to Gary Tremblay at last zone meeting.

- all boundaries within our zone will be reviewed this year.

Meeting Updates –

Zone 4 – significant turnover of executive

- discussion of boundaries

- explained proposed AA League Process for Midget, Bantam and PeeWee by Hockey Alberta

- will be more developmental camps available. Hockey Alberta website will have details.

- more Hockey Alberta grants available for attracting new kids into hockey. $5000 is available for innovative and creative ideas.

Lions – discussion of sustainability of facility.

- Continue to discuss possibility of leasing out rooms to user groups.

North Central – granted a one year leave from league.

Team Updates –

Midget – moved to tier 4

- Discussion regarding an extra player. Can apply for special allotment however, can only dress 17 players and 2 goalies each game. Jerry will discuss with involved player and then determine whether to apply for special allotment.

- Discussion regarding moving teams in order to eliminate breaks. WMHA will continue to move teams to eliminate breaks as this makes it easier to get refs and costs less for ice time.

PeeWee – 11 players registered. Possibility of one more player registering.

- Discussion regarding 4 overage players. Chad has discussed with president and was approved previously.

Atom – 11 players registered.

- Currently have 4 teams registered for tournament.

Novice – played a well matched game on the weekend.

Initiation – 24 kids registered.

- will divide into 2 teams – 3, 4 and some 5 year olds and 5, 6, and some 4 year olds depending on skill levels

Mascot – has been ordered and should be delivered before PeeWee tournament.

- Discussion regarding the effectiveness of the mascot. Others suggestions received for recruitment of older players.

Framing #11 Jersey – Dyck name bar has been ordered and received. Jenn M will sew on jersey.

- Will cost $400 from Black Gold Framing for jersey frame.

- Athena has completed write-up and will submit.

New Business

Circulation of Meeting Minutes–minutes will be posted on website for all in association to view.

Use of Website by Managers – a reminder to Novice, PeeWee and Midget managers to sync our website to 1660 as per directions provided by email.

Tournaments – Currently have 175 medals, 24 heart and hustle toques, 24 MVP toques, 35 home colored necklaces and 132 dark colored necklaces in storage.

**Tawnya will order more toques for the tournaments.

- PeeWee tournament currently has 1 team registered. Will allow one more week to get more teams registered and then will have to make decision whether tournament continues.

- Atom tournament currently has 3 teams registered.

**Heather will email request for donations letters to team managers for distribution.

-WMHA will not allow teams to exchange tournaments without exchanging money. Cheques must be received by all teams entering WMHA tournaments.

President’s Report – girls team was folded and 3 players were released to Camrose.

- in the event a player or coach is supended please notify Woody. A suspended coach cannot coach any level at games but can attend practices.

- passed along appreciation to neighboring arenas who offered ice while ours was being fixed.

Vice President’s Report – TV for raffle was purchased at The Brick in Drayton Valley. Possibility they may be interested in purchasing a signboard.

- expressed appreciation for new ideas in relation to year end gifts and any ideas focusing on retaining kids.

Registrar’s Report–Total of 75 kids registered; 6 are imports from other associations

- Will complete team to team affiliation for all teams except Novice. Overage players are not able to affiliate.

- Emailed Hockey Alberta regarding the requirement of coaches on the bench to have checking course. They recommend always having a coach with the checking course on the bench however likely wouldn’t be checked until team reaches a higher level than league play. WMHA would prefer that there is always a coach with checking course on the bench.

Treasurer’s Report – see submitted report.

- Twyla accepts report as read. Chad seconded. All in favor.

Additional Discussion – Issue in the stands at the last midget game with a boy. Woody will discuss with parents and speak to the person involved.

- Ag Society has requested assistance with 2 bingos in Wetaskiwin scheduled for October 30 and November 12. No one present at meeting able to assist.
