Relate Mid Wiltshire’s purpose is to help people achieve those personal changes which enable them to engage in fulfilling relationships for the benefit of themselves, their family and society.

Overall Aims

The Centre aims to:

deliver a range of professional counselling services which are responsive to client needs and subject to robust clinical governance;

work in partnership with other agencies and Relate Centres to develop and deliver services which meet the needs of clients;

champion the benefits of counselling, in particular encouraging early intervention, thus increasing awareness of the range of services available and improving accessibility;

provide training in relationship skills which is tailored to meet the challenges and transitions of key life stages;

create an effective organisation which is adequately funded and resourced;

be a learning organisation, which continually improves services through monitoring quality and evaluating performance.

Background

Relate Mid Wiltshire – Current position

Relate Mid Wiltshire was established in July 2000 and having been through a significant restructuring process in the two to three years after its creation, the charity has recently been on a more stable footing. The administrative offices are based in Trowbridge, where the full range of relate services are also provided; this is complemented by a focus on outreach provision in local market towns including Chippenham, Devizes and Tidworth,Warminster as well as in Frome and Street. A BACP accredited service provider, Relate Mid Wiltshire is a robust, client focussed charity; however in the current economic climate funding is as challenging as ever.

Relate Mid Wiltshire Services

Services

Relate Mid Wiltshire provides a broad range of therapeutic services including:

  • Relationship Counselling,
  • Family Counselling,
  • Children and Young Peoples Counselling
  • Sex Therapy

In addition we provide a range of training services to encourage healthy relationships; for example, courses on:

  • Parenting Information Programme
  • Caring for Carers
  • Carers Moving Forward
  • Relationship Skills for Young People
  • Therapeutic Group Work

Potentially our services are targeted towards 232,000 adults and over 60,000 young people aged 7 – 19 years old in the Kennet, North Wiltshire and West Wiltshire districts. Approximately 30% of the casework with adult clients originates from relationships where domestic abuse is an issue. The charity provides counselling to improve the well being of individuals/couples in their adult relationship, which in turn will provide a safe and healthy environment for children. Over 35% of young clients present with issues that emanate out of families where domestic abuse is an issue. Other presenting problems include reconstituted family step relationship difficulties, peer pressure, bullying, poor self-esteem and anxiety.
