Wilmette Administration

Wilmette is governed by the Council-Manager form of government. This form of government was adopted by ordinance in and again by referendum in 1969. Under the Council-Manager form, the Board of Trustees serves as the legislative body by adopting resolutions, passing ordinances, adopting a budget and determining a tax rate.

The Village Manager, who is appointed by the Village Board, acts as the Village's chief administrative officer and is responsible for implementing the policies of the Board and managing the day to day operations of the Village. The six members of the Village Board of Trustees are elected at-large for staggered, four year terms. There is a two-term limit for members of the Village Board and the Village President.
