WILKES FARMERS MARKET RULES
2016
- Vendors must reside and produce items they sell within Wilkes County. Growers in adjacent counties will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Vendors must allow inspection of their operation (if needed) to confirm that they are growing the produce they are selling.
- Vendors must be the original producers of all items being sold. No buying and reselling of produce or other products is permitted.
- Vendors must submit an application before they will be allowed to sell at the market. Applications are available to anyone interested in selling at the market.
- Vendors must pay an annualapplication fee of $10 to join the Wilkes County Farmers’ Market. This fee, payable to Wilkes County Farmers’ Market is due prior to first market attended for season and is nonrefundable.
- Vendors have the option of paying a $5 fee for each daily market attended or pay a one-time fee of$50 for the entire season - April through September (40 plus market days). Payments to be made to Market Manager on duty at time- Garret Griffin, Brenda Dembowski or Crystal Keener – call Crystal at 336-667-7129 ext 3021 for any questions.
- The market operates at the Yadkin Valley Marketplace- 812 CBD Loop North Wilkesboro, from 7:30 a.m. until noon on Saturdays. The market will also operate on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. These times must be strictly adhered to and any deviation from these times could result in the seller being suspended from the market.
- Products that can be sold include:
-Any vegetables grown from seeds, sets or seedlings
-Any fruits, nuts or berries grown from trees, bushes, or vines on the sellers farm
-Any plant grown from seed, seedling, transplant or cutting
-Honey
-Locally made arts and crafts (must attach photo of product with application)
-Preserves, pickles, relishes, jams, and jellies. No “low acid” canned food such as green beans, corn, peas, carrots, or canned tomato products, may be sold by order of the health department
-Cut or dried flowers
-Bulbs
- All food must meet state and local health regulations and must be top quality.
- Meat, seafood and poultry products must meet health department standards for transporting, handling, storing and displaying.
- No animals may be sold or given away at the market.
- Prices must be posted for all items.
- Sellers are responsible for cleaning up in the area in and around their location.
- Sellers should not move their vehicles in or out of the market during times when such movement would pose a danger to sellers and customers.
