Thank you for your interest in the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition.

The American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition was founded in 1956 and is the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) oldest allied group. The stated objectives of the AAVN are:

  1. To provide a concerted means for discussion and exchange of information on matters of common interest as applied to the field of nutrition in its relationship to animal health;
  2. To promote greater veterinary interest in and better understanding of current developments in nutrition as affecting animal health;
  3. To promote research in the fields where nutrition may have a relationship to disease; and
  4. To promote closer cooperative relationships with those who share the veterinarian’s responsibility of maintaining optimum animal health through adequate nutrition.

Active membership in the AAVN is offered to veterinarians, nutrition/animal scientists, members of the allied health professions, and certified/licensed veterinary technicians. Student memberships (including interns, residents, and graduate students) are also available.

Officers for 2017-2019 are President: Dr. Martha Cline, Vice President: Dr. Jessica Harris, Secretary: Dr. Megan Sprinkle, Treasurer: Dr. Rebecca Mullis, Immediate Past President: Dr. Craig Datz, and Members-at-Large: Dr. Pat Harris, Dr. Amanda Ardente, and Dr. Lindsey Bullen. Dr. Wilbur Amand is the Executive Director.

Each year the AAVN conducts several scientific programs. One is held in conjunction with the North American Veterinary Conference, and the other with the annual meeting of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum. An email listserv for further information and discussion is available to all paid members.

A membership application form is included with this letter. Feel free to make copies if needed. Please return the application form, along with a check for your first year dues, to the address below. Dues are $60.00 (USD) per year (July 1 – June 30). Members renewing after July 1 will be subject to an additional $10.00 late fee. Full time students (veterinary, animal science, technicians, intern, resident, grad students) and 1st year veterinary school graduates are exempt from dues. Second year veterinary school graduates may join at a reduced rate of $30. Should you need any additional information, please contact me. Thank you again for your interest.
