Job Title: / Room Leader (potential to move into deputy role or have deputy responsibilities) – all rooms available (baby, toddler and pre-school)
Annual Salary(approx.): / £15,000 - £20,000 (opportunity to take on deputy roles or career development into deputy to earn from £19,000 to £21,000 +)
Hours per week: / 35-40 hours (depending on demand; part time and term time only may be available)

The role
  • Deputy type responsibilities (named deputy) when the manager is not present.
  • Be responsible of the running of a room/age group within the nursery.
  • Plan for the room/age group (with support from staff); track the assessment of the children; deal with issues that may arise; pass on information from the manager and ensure the routines and expectations are carried out.
  • Work closely with the manager and other room leaders.
  • Interact, supervise and keep the children safe and happy as well as supporting the nursery team in the day to day running of the nursery.
  • Have a key worker group with responsibility of their learning and assessments e.g. learning journey books and next steps as well as supporting all other children in the nursery.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures at Wiggles & Giggles Day Nursery and work within the Child protection act, health and safety legislation and within the guidelines of Ofsted and National Standards.
  • To work as part of a team and support members of staff and children in the nursery.
  • You will share the responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of the children

Main duties and responsibilities
As a room leader you will be expected safeguard and support their wellbeing at all times and follow the nursery policies and procedures. You will deliver activities; plan fun and engaging activities (with support from others); conduct observations/recording the learning of the children; be responsible for the assessment and tracking in the room and keep high standards. You will also be responsible for a key worker group which you develop good relationships with and support their development and new steps. You will liaise and regularly communicate with parents, particularly the ones in your key group and will be asked to take part in parent consultations.
When working within the nursery you will assist with the preparation and maintenance of the equipment and work closely with the staff in your room as well as regular meetings with the manager and other room leaders.During the children’s lunch and snack, you may need to help with the dishing up, preparation of food and clearing away of equipment as well as supporting the children when needed with eating (food prep will require food safety qualification). Depending on the age of the child you may need to assist with their toileting needs and care e.g. changing nappies, feeding and comforting.
You will be expected to manage the staff in the room which may include delegating tasks, allocating breaks, identifying training needs, delivering staff meetings, ensuring room ratios are kept (with support from senior management.
Personal specification / Essential / Desirable / Evidence
Education & Qualifications / Early years/child care Level 3 or higher Qualification (or equivalent).
GCSE Maths & English C or above
IF working in the baby room – training that specifically addresses the care of babies. / Interest in gaining a qualification in childcare.
Paediatric first aid
Food Safety (level 1 or 2) / Certificates & CV
Skills & Abilities / Work as part of a team
Interact well with young children and parents
Create fun learning experiences for children / Have a hobby which may relate to the children’s development e.g. a sport, craft / CV & Interview & Qualifications/training
Experience / Worked in a nursery or EYFS setting
Planning and assessing in EYFS
