Saint Project

We need saints without cassocks, without veils – we need saints with jeans and tennis shoes. We need saints that go to the movies, that listen to music, that hand out with their friends, We need saints that place God in first place ahead of succeeding in any career. We need saints that look for time to pray every day and who know how to be in love with purity, chastity and all good things. We need saints- saints for the 21st century with a spirituality appropriate to our new time. We need saints that have a commitment to helping the poor and to make the needed social change. We need saints to live in the world, to sanctify the world and to not be afraid of living in the world by their presence in it. We need saints that drink Coca-Cola, that eat their hot dogs, that surf the internet and listen to music on theiriPhones. We need saints that love the Eucharist, that are not afraid or embarrassed to eat a pizza or drink a beer with their friends. We need saints who love the movies, dance, sports, theater. We need saints that are open sociable normal happy companions. We need saints who are in this world and who know how to enjoy the best in this world without being callous or mundane. We need saints. –Popes John Paul II and Francis

Why a saint for Confirmation?

We choose a Confirmation saint (like we choose a Confirmation sponsor) not out of due dillagence to the “rule”, but rather because we realize how unfortunate it would be to travel alone. We recognize how important it is to know your Confirmation saint not only by name, but also by story. The saints have so much to teach us about this journey.

When you are choosing a saint, pick one who speaks to you somehow. Know their story. But, mostly know the power of their prayer. Ask for their intercession like you would ask for the prayers of your friends. Saying “yes” to a Confirmation saint is like saying “yes, you may always pray for my poor and weary soul.”

I pray that in this process you don’t just find a Confirmation saint, but instead and incredible friend.

How to choose a patron saint

  1. Look at your vocation or station in life. What do you think you are called to do, who does God want you to be?
  2. What is your occupation or field of study. What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to study in college?
  3. What are your hobbies or special interests? What drives you or what do you feel most passionate about?
  4. What is your current life circumstances? Are you the youngest or oldest sibling? Do you take care of a family member? Are you the voice for those who cannot speak (translating for parents)?
