You are invited to participate in the first ever Passport Caravan at Fort Lewis College on September 28th, 2016. At this event you may apply for a passport free of charge. That’s a $150 value! Please read more to make sure you are eligible to apply:

WHO: All Fort Lewis College students are invited to the CIEE Passport Caravan, where they can apply for a U.S. passport. You are eligible if you are:

  1. An FLC student
  2. Can provide proof of your intention to learn more about studying abroad by:
  3. Having completed the study abroad orientation course GS 250, or
  4. Current enrollment in the study abroad orientation course GS 250, or
  5. Proof of attendance at a study abroad information session open house scheduled the first two weeks of class in the Senate Chambers (SUN 163) as follows:
  6. Mondays 11:30-1:30
  7. Tuesdays 1-2
  8. Wednesdays 9-10:30
  9. Thursdays 1-2:30
  10. Friday 11:30-1:30

WHAT: The CIEE Passport Caravan is a one-day, on-campus event sponsored by Fort Lewis College and the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). At the event, CIEE will help 50 students apply for passports for free. Once issued, U.S. passports last for ten years, opening up a decade of possibilities for individuals to study, live, work, and travel outside of the United States.

REQUIREMENTS: Students interested in receiving the passport benefit must register for the event with the Fort Lewis College International Programs Office. It’s mandatory that all students seeking passports come ready with required materials or they will not be able to complete the passport application process. HOW: Please go to the following link to sign up. be sure to provide your FLC student ID number when you enroll. Once you do that, make sure to check your email for instructions on how to prepare for the appointment. Please note that you must provide proof of your interest in studying abroad by attending an info session open house the first two weeks of classes (see schedule above) and you must meet with the International Programs Office to go over your completed application prior to your passport appointment on September 28th or your timeslot will be given to someone on the waitlist. The deadline to schedule your completed application with the International Programs Office is September 16th. If you don’t contact the IPO by the 16th with your complete application in hand, your September 28th appointment will be given to a student on the waiting list.

WHY: This event is part of CIEE’s support of Generation Study Abroad™, an initiative to make study abroad possible for more U.S. students by breaking down the three major barriers to study abroad: cost, curriculum, and culture. Over the next five years, CIEE is sponsoring passports for 10,000 students around the country, as well as providing $20 million in scholarships and making an annual grant to college faculty to support innovative approaches for custom study abroad programs. The goal of Generation Study Abroad is to double the number of American students who study abroad by 2020.
