Regrets: none

Call to Order: 5:33 pm

Adoption of the Agenda:

·  The Agenda was adopted as circulated.

Adoption of the Minutes of January 19, 2015

◦  Minutes adopted as written from January meeting. Minute approved and moved by April Williams. Seconded Tyler Williams. All in favor. CARRIED

New Business:

◦  YCA meeting next Tuesday at 5:30 pm @ WCC. YCA agenda reviewed and our additions to the agenda included:

▪  Review with YCA what it costs WCC to host YCA events: lights, janitorial, ice

▪  Sandy will look at fee structure at what other smaller provinces get from their local Curling Canada associations

▪  Suggestion to use local coaches vs flying people up. Support local talent.

Old Business:

·  Search for bookkeeper. Interview(s) to take place this Thursday

President's Report: Mark Evans

·  Laini has resigned. We thank her for her contribution to the board and commitment to the club.

·  Volunteer of the Year nominations. Awards are given out at the International in March.

ACTION: Mark will compile e-mail and send to Sandy to distribute to membership to ask for nominations.

Club Manager's Report: Sandy Miller

·  The Club Manager’s report was circulated.

·  Planning for the International going well. Fairbanks may send 10 teams.

MOTION: That the Whitehorse Curling Club apply for a license to run 50/50 draws during the International Bonspiel.

Moved by Wes Huston. Seconded by Bob Smallwood. All in favour

DIRECTORS' REPORTS:

Vice-President, Men: Bob Smallwood

·  Sportsman Bonspiel went well. Thanks to Tyler for doing the draws, and to volunteers and staff for all their work and to the ice techs. Report to follow.

·  Feedback from Sportsman's participants that the prizes were awesome. This is encouraging as this may help bring in new curlers to the event and keep current members motivated to sign up.

  • Discussed the idea of requesting a “blanket sponsorship” from sponsors, where local businesses’ would be approached and told about all the bonspiels/events occurring at WCC and letting them offer money/prizes/food they deem appropriate, which can be used at any event through the season (rather than approaching sponsors, often the same ones, for each event).

Vice-President, Women: April Williams

·  Ladies' Bonspiel went well. Thanks to volunteers and staff for all their work and to the ice techs.

·  Bonspiel profit was about $700 and received great feedback about the dinner being provided vs a potluck. Saved $300 on door prizes thanks to Arlene Yeulet.

·  Look for co-sponsorhip next year.

·  12 teams seems to be the usual number of teams for Ladies Bonspiel.

·  Idea to create a survey (Survey Monkey?) to the membership asking how to encourage more participation in bonspiels (ie. do members like regular scoring or the alternate scoring method?). The survey could include other questions about club events.

Treasurer: Vacant

·  The financials reviewed to January 31.

·  There has been no change in utilit y costs.

◦  ACTION Mark will send a letter to the city of Whitehorse regarding their unilateral decision to run two compressors without informing WCC, which has resulted in elevated electrical costs for WCC. May request a rebate or reduction in another area to offset costs we could have avoided had we been informed. Had Ray Mikkelson not checked we would still be incurring this unnecessary cost.

Draw Master: Tyler Williams

·  Playoff brackets to be payed out for Tuesday night league .

·  Playoff brackets for league curling will be posted next week.

Publicity: Vacant

Junior Programs: Vacant

·  Christine Kopan will run the Family Bonspiel

Membership: Wes Huston

·  Nothing to report

Ice Standards: Lee Malanchuk

·  Thanks to Ray for keeping track of electrical usage/costs.

·  Ice techs have indicated they will return next year.

Director at Large: Vacant

MOTION to adjourn at: 6:45pm made by Lee Malanchuk and seconded by Wes Huston. CARRIED
