Judges 13

“While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified.” Matthew 17:5-6

“I saw the Lord sitting on a throne… then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips… for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.” Isaiah 6:1, 5

“Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me… When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man.” Revelation 1:12, 17

“And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still…” They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” Mark 4:39, 41

“But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus’ feet saying, “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!” Luke 5:8

“When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell on their faces to the ground… “We will surely die, for we have seen God.” Judges 13:20, 22

I am thankful for Judges 13, and Luke 5, and Mark 4, and Revelation 1, and Isaiah 6, and Matthew 17. There is never a time when I don’t need to be reminded of the awesomely terrifying majesty of Jehovah. Ask the Spirit to open your eyes to see the glory of God. How do you know if you’ve experienced a sight of God’s glory? Ask Isaiah, Peter, John, or Manoah. Sometimes we don’t need to learn some super practical life lesson (not that those are bad). But sometimes we simply need to experience the holiness of God and be terrified by it. Without a doubt, as shown by the verses quoted above, when the Spirit opens the eyes of our heart to see and savor the glory of the Lord, we will realize how sinful we are and how deserving of Hell we truly are and tears may come to our eyes as we realize the impact of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

“How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure. That He would give His only son, to make a wretch His treasure…

Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer, but this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom”
