  • Personal Statement (no more than one A4 page) for each scholarship you are applying for. This document is used to put forward your case for receiving the scholarship. Topics may include, but are not limited to, why you qualify for this award, past academic achievements, why are you applying for this scholarship, and how the scholarship would be of assistance within your studies.
  • Academic transcripts. You must provide certified copies of all transcripts detailing previous tertiary study (it is NOT necessary to attach University of Sydney transcripts).
  • Applicants for the Commonwealth Supported Equity Scholarship will be required to show evidence of continuing payment of benefits in 2007 before this award will be confirmed.

Commonwealth Supported Equity Scholarships

The University of Sydney Planning and Support Office makes available 12 EFTSL of Commonwealth supported places each year to allow for reduced fee costs in postgraduate coursework programs in the Faculty of Architecture, with the objective of maintaining equity of access to fee liable courses. Applicants must be enrolled or have applied for admission to a graduate coursework program in the Faculty of Architecture and be in receipt of Australian Government support for low income earners at the time of enrolment. Applicants must also be eligible for Commonwealth support i.e. be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen. The scholarship is tenable for one year only and is renewable on competitive application.

Allen Jack + Cottier Scholarship in Heritage Conservation

Established in 2006 from a donation of $15,000 from Allen Jack + Cottier, award winning architects whose work has spanned contemporary buildings in Australia and overseas and those with a significant focus on conservation, heritage and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. The scholarship is to encourage the study of heritage conservation and the creative reuse of historic buildings. Awarded annually to the best entering student into the Master of Heritage Conservation program who has an architectural design or closely related background and intends to study conservation and the creative reuse of buildings. The scholarship shall be awarded based on previous academic record, plus a portfolio and an interview if required, and shall be decided by a committee comprised of the Heritage Conservation Program Coordinator, the Professor of Architecture and a representative of Allen Jack + Cottier. The scholarship shall be tenable for one year.

Tertiary Education Facility Management Association / National Council for Rationalised Building Scholarship

Established in 2005 by the Tertiary Education Facility Management Association / National Council on Rationalised Building with the commitment to fund one scholarship each year for three years. The scholarship shall be awarded annually on the recommendation of a committee comprised of the Dean or nominee, the Facilities Management Program Coordinator, and a representative from TEFMA. The award will be made on the basis of an application including a statement of possible honours dissertation research interests and an interview if required. Applicants must enrol full time, should have the intention of completing the honours degree and are expected to present a paper to the national TEFMA conference at the completion of the degree. The paper may also be published by TEFMA on their web site and in their newsletter. The scholarship is valued at $1500pa and is tenable for up to two years subject to satisfactory progress that qualifies the student for enrolment in the dissertation in the second year.

Woods Bagot Scholarship in Urban Design

The name of the scholarship shall be the Woods Bagot Scholarship in Urban Design. The scholarship shall be open for the degree of Master of Urban Design. The scholarship will be awarded annually on the basis of academic excellence and an ability to recognise the relationship between academic studies and the needs of the profession of urban design, as demonstrated by portfolio and interview. The scholarship shall be awarded on the recommendation of the selection committee comprising the Urban Design Program Coordinator, the Professor of Architecture and a representative of Woods Bagot Pty Ltd or their nominee. The scholarship shall be awarded provided there is a candidate of sufficient merit. In the event of there being two or more candidates of equal merit, the scholarship shall be shared equally between them. Consideration may be given to awarding an increased amount where the successful applicant has sought specific funding for air travel or other expenses. All work published as a consequence of the tenure of the scholarship shall acknowledge the scholarship.
