§ Tobacco Work plan Update – Jill Dole. Because PW is the Tobacco Coalition, Jill is able to provide a training to the community through the TPFC (who will fund). Jill asked for ideas about training needs. Norma suggested something beyond just why smoking is bad and Florence gave some examples of other types of appropriate trainings, such as Donna Beagle on interrupting generational poverty. Jill mentioned other parts of her work plan:
o Clallam County has 98% compliance rate (for not selling tobacco to minors)
o Following up on citizen complaints
o Looking at what other county’s are doing re: enforcement
o Starting to with the homeless population and their high rate of tobacco use
o Working on other parity issues w/ insurance companies, so that tobacco cessation is considered similarly to other abused substances
o OMC, Cancer Center and VM are going smoke free on November 28, 2008.
o Training on “brief tobacco intervention” for the medical community
o MD’s will be required to offer referrals to cessation programs and tools , including the patch or Chantix to participants being admitted to the hospital
