Hydroblasting in San Francisco

Attention!

When you hydroblast building surfaces in San Francisco, the wastewater may contain lead-based paint chips and dust. You must prevent the contaminated wastewater from going into the sewer. You may want to filter the wastewater at the job site using three layers of cheesecloth before discharging the filtered water to the sewer.

The California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal-EPA) prohibits filtering potentially hazardous waste. In order for you to filter the wastewater from hydroblasting, you will need to complete the attached cover letter plus the 12-page form and send them to Cal-EPA to obtain an exemption from the rule.

Complete only the areas of the form where there is an arrow or a circle. You do not need to be concerned with the “X” portions of the form, which are not applicable to the hydroblasting situation.

If you have further questions, please call the Children’s Environmental Health Promotion Program of the San Francisco Department of Public Health at (415) 554-8930 ext. 14 or (415) 252-3957.
