R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 2000 Jarrell High School football team completed an outstanding season and its myriad achievements are deserving of special legislative recognition; and
WHEREAS, Head coach Randy Franklin, who is also the school's athletic director, guided his team to the District 252A championship this season and was named the District Coach of the Year; moreover, Jarrell, which was reclassified from a Class 1A school to a Class 2A school in 2000, surprised many people by amassing an 112 overall record; and
WHEREAS, In the University Interscholastic League Class 2A Division II state playoffs, the Cougars defeated Johnson City High School in the bidistrict round and captured the area title by clawing their way to a 1612 victory against Wallis Brazos High School; Jarrell put up a determined effort but fell short against Refugio High School in its regional game; and
WHEREAS, Jarrell's Jontue FearsHayes was chosen to the Class 2A AllState honorable mention offensive and defensive football teams; joining him as an honorable mention AllState selection were teammates Matt Hausenfluke, Justin Bryson, and Brandon Hayes; and
WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible without the significant contributions of all of the team members; with hard work, training, and determination, these exemplary young men have proven themselves to be formidable competitors, and as they take justifiable pride and satisfaction in their tremendous season, it is indeed appropriate to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the 2000 Jarrell High School football team on its sterling accomplishments and extend to the members of the team sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team members from Jarrell High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
