Task title: Event Volunteer

Where will you be based?

Your location is dependent on the event location and your availability.

Each year the hospice events team organises large and small scale events to help fund end of life services. Among others, the events calendar includes a 5K Run/Walk, Bike Ride, ladies only walk, golf day, ball, Bring a Pound Day and Christmas Concert.

Our events would not be possible without the support of volunteers who perform a variety of duties throughout the event and help us to maximise the income raised.

Who will your line manager be?

Event Manager

What will you be doing?

Event volunteering can include a range of duties including:

  • Event photography
  • Event promoters
  • Manning our registration desks
  • Giving out merchandise and/or medals at the end of an event
  • Marshalling
  • Cheering on our event participants
  • Helping to set up and pack down an event
  • Bucket collectors and counting monies

What skills and attributes will you need?

  • The ability to work well with staff and other volunteers as part of a team but also on your own initiative.
  • To be confident when dealing with supporters
  • A friendly demeanour and positive attitude

How much availability and time commitment do you need to give?

Hospice events can last anywhere from a couple of hours to all day events, we ask our volunteers to let us know how much time they can commit to an event which could be just a couple of hours a month.

What will you have to wear?

A volunteer badge must be worn at all times, during public events it is likely a high vis vest will be provided to you.

What support will you be given?

For your first event it is likely we’ll buddy you up with one of our seasoned volunteers who can show you the ropes until you feel comfortable. Our events team is always on hand to provide support and there will always be a member of staff present at every event should you wish to talk to anyone.

What benefits can you expect as a volunteer?

We have circa 900 volunteers whose contribution to the Hospice is vital across all of our activities including the delivery of high quality patient services and in fundraising. You will feel proud to be part of this team, giving your time to benefit the Hospice and our service users.

You will be part of a friendly, motivated and enthusiastic team of staff and volunteers. Whether you wish to utilise your existing skills and experience or to develop new skills, your contribution will be highly valued.
