Dear prospective student:

You can now receive a thorough education in barbering & hairstyling in a spacious and friendly atmosphere under the guidance of experienced and professionally trained instructors. Assuring you the best in a hairstyling career, SamVerly College has been licensed and approved for training by the Georgia State Board of Barbers. SamVerly College offers three courses to students:

The Barber & Hairstyling Course is a 1500-hour curriculum designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the barber & hairstyling profession. The typical completion timeline for this course is 9 to 12 months for full time students, 15 to 18 months for part time students, and 24 months for evening students.

The Instructor’s Course is a 750-hour course aimed at further developing the practical and theoretical prowess of the licensed Barber & Hairstylist. Typically, a full time student can complete this course in 6 months. By the end of the course, the student will be ready to step into the role of instruction.

The Crossover Barber Course is specifically designed for the licensed cosmetologist. This 300-hour course can be completed in as little as 2 months and is designed to broaden and enhance styling knowledge and skill by providing an intensive and efficient lesson in barbering.

At SamVerly’s, we place a strong emphasis on developing artistic abilities and entrepreneurial spirit. We understand the constant changing trends in the hair industry, thus we are aggressive in ensuring that ALL OF OUR STUDENTS are competent hairstylists; trendsetters, not followers. In addition to our educational curriculum, we also offer placement assistance to aid graduates in securing employment or starting their own business.

Enrollment

Students may obtain an application from the admission’s office, either by visiting in person or by calling. We do encourage that each prospective student visit the facility if possible. Students must pay the application fee at the time of submitting their application, and will be notified by mail of acceptance. Furthermore, information regarding enrollment and orientation will be provided. All appropriate fees must be paid and registration forms must be completed in order to matriculate. Any applicants under 18 years of age are required to be enrolled by a parent or legal guardian.

Class Schedules

Full-time:

·  37.5 hours weekly, Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm or 11am - 7pm (10 months)

·  32.5 hours weekly, Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 4pm or 12am - 7pm (12 months)

Part-time:

·  25 hours weekly, Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 2pm or 12pm - 5pm (15 months)

·  20 hours weekly, Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 1pm or 1pm - 5pm (18 months)

Evening:

·  15.5 hours weekly, Thursday - Friday, 5pm - 9pm, Saturday, 9am - 5pm

0r 15.5 hours weekly, Thursday – Friday, 3pm –7pm, Saturday, 9am – 5pm

Some topics covered in the SamVerly’s curriculum are:

·  Theory, Hair structure, and related Chemistry

·  Hairstyling techniques and cutting

·  Shaving and beard trims

·  Shampooing

·  Facials

·  Scalp Treatments and techniques

·  Permanent waving, relaxing, and any application used on the hair

Added to the instructor’s course are:

·  Classroom instruction

·  Barber Board requirements and recording

·  School management

·  Principles of barbering & hairstyling

·  Human relations and motivation

·  Lesson plans

·  Classroom supervision techniques

·  Discipline styles

·  Demonstration and lectures

·  Test development

Admission’s Requirements

¨  All applicants, regardless of the desired course, will confer with the admissions representative before enrolling. If this conference cannot be arranged in person, special consideration may be granted for a telephone conference. Acceptance is based solely on the student’s academic history (at least 7th grade education), minimum age qualifications (16 yrs. old), and personal conference, without regard to race, sex, creed, religion, financial status, or national origin. A transcript is required for students transferring from another hairstyling institution.

Barber & Hairstyling Course:

¨  A high school diploma or G.E.D. is not required for this course. Applicants must have a minimum education of having completed 7th grade.

¨  Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Instructor’s Course:

¨  Applicants must have completed an approved course in barber/hairstyling and provide a copy of the state issued license.

¨  Applicants must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.

¨  Applicants must complete an assessment examination to assure competent practical skills and theoretical knowledge.

Crossover Barber Course/Continuing Education:

¨  Applicants for this course must possess a state awarded barber/hairstyling or cosmetology license, or provide a transcript indicating the completion of 1500 hours in either of these two courses.

The State of Georgia requires that applicants be at least 16 years of age with at least a 7th grade education! Submit $35 application fee with application for admission.
