Interpersonal Communication

As of a few weeks ago, I have learned how to say “Hello, my name is Zach” and “goodbye” informally. I also know a few random words like water, sun, and hangman.

Interpretive Listening

I am only able to understand “Hello”.

Interpretive Reading

I am only able to read greetings

Presentational Speaking

I can only say “Hello my name is Zach”.

Presentational Writing

I can only write a basic greeting.

What is your ultimate goal? What is your goal for this semester?
What do you want to be able to do with this language at the end of this semester and in the future?My goal is to reach a B2 level of proficiency in the language. I want to learn all of the grammar basics, such as pronunciation, verb tenses, etc., so that I can continue to build on this foundation after the class. I hope that I can continue taking the course next semester in order to reach my goal. More specifically, this B2 level means to me that I could hold an informal conversation with a native speaker and understand 65-70% of what they say. By the end of the semester, I hope to be halfway at this goal.

Be as specific as possible when planning activities, e.g., “I will watch YouTube videos to learn how to talk about the family.” or “I will consult a grammar text to learn about possessives.” Make sure you include some tasks that are relevant to your interests, e.g., “I will learn to understand soccer commentary.” or “I will learn to talk about the stock market.” Culture and language are, of course, inseparable. It is expected that all your language will be culturally appropriate and that every task will contribute to your cultural competence.
