When you’re a young child perhaps the most frightening things about childhood are the monsters under your bed or the fear of falling of a tricycle. However, in some cases childhood can bring about much more frightening circumstances than your parents forcing you to eat your vegetables. In some cases young children are faced with the uphill battle against cancer. But with every challenge comes opportunity including the opportunity to overcome this deadly disease. The fundamental aspects to surviving cancer are the benefits gained from having the support of family, friends, and the influential and prevailing feeling of hope.

There are people in this world who can throw a baseball hard enough to kill someone. Nearly every day you can watch highlights of players getting injured by pitchers throwing the ball 90-100 mph right at them. It seems impossible but most players can hit a ball that goes that fast, even hit it out. After playing baseball for 16 years I can tell you that a curveball is much more dangerous pitch. In fact pitchers, being the most important players on the field, consider the curveball their most important weapon.

It’s early Saturday morning, and the loud roar of an engine vibrates my bedroom walls, waking me out of a dead sleep. The rumbling gets louder, sounding like a dozen lumberjacks with chainsaws attempting to saw my house in half. I look out my bedroom window to see six mean-looking big black Harleys, sitting in my neighbor’s driveway. Dressed in leather jackets, big boots, and black scarves, the riders revving their engines look incredibly scary, like some bad news motorcycle gang. However, I laugh as my neighbor leads the pack of bikers out of his driveway. This isn’t an ordinary motorcycle gang. In fact, that’s about as far from the truth as it can be. This “wanna-be” motorcycle gang is a unique group of businessmen and regular dads, forty or older, whose favorite pastime is riding their Harleys.

A bully is someone who hurts, belittles, and torments someone else in order to feel better about themselves. In clinical terms, they call it leveling. They've made movies about it, they've written books about it, me... I just lived it. More importantly, I survived it. Jr. High and High School are equivalent to the reality TV game show Survivor. Many are voted out, and only the strong survive.

What do computers, indoor plumbing, and food all have in common? These are all things left behind on a survivalist trip. One may ask, why would you ever want to leave our modern world for one with snakes and spiders? Living in the wild has many benefits, particularly relaxation and building strong friendships. If done right, these trips are highly rewarding and make one appreciate civilized life even more.

I know what this hesitation on the doorstep is for. The moment I have been dreaming of is finally here! He is actually going to do it! Yes…he thanks me for a wonderful evening and then begins to lean closer and closer. I gently close my eyes and wait for the magic. Warm lips on mine, I feel butterflies in my stomach. Isn’t this how it is supposed to happen? A long-awaited first kiss. To many, a first kiss is a rite of passage, a build-up of emotions that by a simple touch are released with a fiery passion. For me, however, it was not.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think the best smell in the entire world has to be the smell of wet dirt. Not mud, but the smell of a dirt starting line being sprayed down in preparation of a future race about to happen. This is the type of place I spent most of my weekends growing up, because my family has always been very much into racing dirtbikes. And to this day, I cannot think of a better place to be spending my weekends, than a day at the races. A day at the races is an amazing and thrilling experience that, to me, is irreplaceable.

Twilight is a novel written for all of those teenage girls, full of angst, craving for an unreal sense of sexuality and romance. In this novel there is a stunning young vampire named Edward. He is, by all hormonal teenaged girls’ definition, the perfect guy. He never ages, has rock hard muscles, and a gaze that could freeze time itself. There was not one second of sweet Bella’s life that Edward was not there watching over her, guiding her, and protecting her. This may seem too good to be true. But in this story, the apparent stud is by all definitions, a stalker. He spends the majority of the book drooling over the scent of Bella’s blood. His sole desire, for the first half of the book is to grab her head, twist it to the side, and consume the insides of her throat. Edward Cullen is more than just a stalker, he is a psychotic stalker.

Soaring two-hundred feet in the air, parasailing, I could see the entire island. Surrounded with clear turquoise water, from that height you could see the bottom of the ocean, and the sting rays swimming. I was the prettiest sight I have ever seen yet, it is called Hell. Hell is the word most people use to describe a horrible place. And most people think that the devil lives there, and once you are there your life will suck forever. But this is not the case; Hell is one of the greatest places on earth.

Imagine seeing a person, who has bleached hair, tall high heels, and a dress made completely out of bubbles. Then she starts singing and dancing to a song about the paparazzi. This is probably not a common occurrence in life. When most hear the name Lady Gaga, they usually imagine odd songs, extreme music videos, and even more extreme outfits. Do these extreme lifestyles make Lady Gaga a ridiculous person? She is crazy enough to stand out, but not crazy enough to be a failure. I think that these songs, music videos, and outfits make Lady Gaga a musical genius.

Trick-or-Treat! Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat! If you don’t, I don’t care, I’ll pull down your underwear!Halloween.A night of mischief and pleasure.A night of running through suburban neighborhoods, wearing costumes that frighten and amuse, and collecting a mass amount of candy. Halloween has always been one of my favorite childhood memories. It has become something that I look forward to year after year due to the spooky costumes, the big Halloween feast, and the exhilaration of trick-or-treating

High heels come in many shapes and forms, and whether they are stilettos, pumps, or platforms, they make a powerful statement. The woman that makes the most powerful statement with her high heels is a woman that wears them with self-confidence. A woman that doesn’t care what others may think. In reality, it is the woman that gives the power to the shoe, not the other way around. Although, without self-confidence, the shoe that has the power to destroy the woman.

Most people have different opinions on what a catcher really does. I just happen to have my own opinions having experienced being one for the past ten years of my life. It’s a lot more than just putting on gear and squatting in the blistering heat for seven, or in my case, fourteen innings, receiving pitch after pitch after pitch. That just sounds crazy!

I am a full blooded Navajo called the Dine people. It’s the largest tribe in the United States. We are most known for our tradition and heritage. What most really don’t know within our heritage is about a skinwalker. Yes, I said skinwalkers. Skinwalkers as we know now is a human being using the skin of a coyote, wolf, bear and many other animals as clothing to cover up in. When transformed they are grated with the strength and speed of the animal. In our culture we know them as the ya’ na’ yadloshi, those who roam at night. We also know it as witch-crafting.
