When It All Comes Together

When It All Comes Together

When It All Comes Together

Luke 2:15 - 20

15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Introduction

Besides Jesus Himself, Mary, the mother of Jesus, is probably the most fascinating person in the Christmas narrative.

Joseph? The Shepherds? The Wise Men? Even Angels?

1. Mary’s Mind Had Been Spinning For Quiet A While!

A. It all began with the announcement by the Angel Gabriel…

Luke 1:26 - 28

26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

Page 2

1) Can’t you imagine what your mind would do if you saw

an angel?

2) Secondly – to be told by an angel that you are special…

”…highly favored…blessed art thou among women…”

3) Thirdly to be told you were going give birth to the Son of God

B. She was “troubled at his saying” (vs. 29)

C. She “cast in her mind” (vs. 29)

Cast = revolve in one’s mind, deliberate

2. Mary’s Mind Was Dealing With “Life” Questions.

A. Luke 1:34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I

do not know a man?

B. What about Joseph?

C. What about my parents, family, friends?

3. Mary’s Mind Was Dealing With “Spiritual” Questions.

A. Luke 1:39 – end of chapter

[Mary went to Judah (praise) to stay with her cousin Elizabeth until John

the Baptist is born]

1) Elizabeth is filled with Holy Spirit

2) Elizabeth calls Mary the mother of her Lord

3) Zacharias is filled with the Holy Spirit

Page 3

4) Mary witnesses the return of Zacharias’s speech after the birth

of John the Baptist.

B. Mary had to be questioning in her mind how she could give birth to

the “Son of God” – The Messiah?

4. It All Came Together In The Stable.

Luke 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

Ponder = Sumballo - Greek

=to put one thing with another in considering circumstances

= add together

Vs 19 doesn’t say that Mary was “thinking” on the events surrounding the birth of Jesus BUT that she finally put it all together in her heart!

A. Mary “pondered” = Put it all together

B. When she saw the shepherds come and worship

C. When she heard their story of the Angelic Hosts

D. Everything added up!

E. The appearance by Gabriel to her and Joseph…

F. The encounter with Elizabeth and Zachariah…

G. What the Spirit had said through her in Luke 1:53 came to her mind

Luke 1:53 He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He

has sent away empty.

H. Now the poor shepherds come to the manger to worship…

Conclusion:

 A similar thing happens in our mind.

 First we deal with the proclamation that Jesus is real

 Second we deal with the “life” questions.

 Then we deal with the “spiritual” questions.

 Then all of a sudden it all comes together when we begin to worship Him.
