The internship is Human Resources Admin Intern and you’ll be reporting to the HR Officer.

The department is responsible for all HR related activities for Doctors of the World UK. This includes permanent, volunteer & Interns recruitment, implementing effective policies and procedures and training and development. The department strategically links the the various aspects of HR activities to the overall 5 year business plan for Doctors of the World UK.

We are based in 6th Floor, One Canada Square, London, E14 5AA

We are looking for someone who can spend 3- 4 days a week with us for a minimum of 6months. We can be flexible with days.

This is an unpaid position but we will reimburse your out of pocket expenses of up to a total of £10 a day for travel and lunch. You will be required to provide receipts for these expenses.

You must have a keen interest in developing a career in Human Resources. You must be an excellent communicator and have good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with others, and be well organised with excellent administration skills. A bit of a background to Doctors of the World UK

Doctors of the World (Médecins du Monde) is an international aid and development charity that works in more than 70 countries providing medical care and campaigning tirelessly to make a reality of healthcare as a human right for everyone, particularly the most excluded. Here in the UK, we run the Project:London clinic in Bethnal Green that helps thousands of vulnerable people access healthcare.

Outline of Department
The department is responsible for all HR related activities for Doctors of the World UK. This includes permanent, volunteer & Interns recruitment, implementing effective policies and procedures and training and development. The department strategically links the the various aspects of HR activities to the overall 5 year business plan for Doctors of the World UK.
Outline of Role
The role will be to support the HR Officer in day to day HR Admin functions. A large part of the role will be to assist with the recruitment of volunteers and interns, looking for ways to raise the profile for Doctors of the World to increase high quality applications for our volunteer roles, responsible for managing and updating the recruitment spread sheet.
Detailed description of tasks
  • Responding to the emails received in HR Admin/Recruitment inbox
  • Advertising relevant positions and tracking the end dates on various job boards and volunteering centres
  • Sending pre-interview information to applicants by email and telephone
  • Sending invitation letters to applicants for interview
  • Preparing files and updating the recruitment follow up spread sheet
  • Ensure the HR volunteer files and folder is up to date
  • Requesting references for volunteers and tracking responses
  • Identify and attend relevant recruitment fairs and events
  • Creating and maintaining the volunteer files
  • Ensuring volunteer documents have been filed away accurately and promptly
  • Working in collaboration with the Project:London Administrator
  • Responsible for the collection of the post from the post room
  • To assist the HR Officer in any other ad hoc admin duties.
There may also be opportunity to assist the HR officer with HR projects such as volunteer management, drafting and implementing recruitment packs and policy, benefits and reward.
Skills and experience required
Essential
  • Degree level education (preferably in Human Resources)
  • Some experience and knowledge of working in HR
  • Keen interest in pursuing a HR career
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A can-do attitude and approach
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with others and foster open communications
  • Proven ability to organise and prioritise tasks and manage own time efficiently
  • Excellent administration skills
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to undertake desk based researche.gnew methods of advertising for volunteering opportunities
Desirable
  • French language skills
  • Experience of working or volunteering in a charity
