Who does God say He is?

Natural attributes– who God is, how He has defined Himself to be inwardly

Moral attributes–who God has revealed Himself to be outwardly in relation to His creation

Natural attributes

Omniscient – knows all; complete understanding of every fact, possibility, and perspective

Omnipotent – possesses all power; able to do anything

Omnipresent – present everywhere

One – true God, in perfect unity and completeness

Infinite – no limits or boundaries

Incomprehensible – beyond the understanding of man, more complex than mortal minds can conceive

Immanent – existing, remaining (His presence), alive, sustaining, near, present, involved

Immutable – unchanging, always the same, constant, cannot be improved or decline

Immortal – unlike man, cannot die, the Author and Authority over of life, not subject to death

Self-existent – not created by another, dependent upon nothing outside Himself for existence

Self-sufficient – able to act without need of assistance, in need of nothing

Sovereign – supreme authority, nothing escaping His control and foreknown plan

Eternal – no beginning, no end; has always been, always will be

Transcendent – above all His creation, beyond human experience, exceeding all, without equal

Absolute – perfect, complete, standard, example, and definition of each attribute, nothing lacking

Unique – different from all others, none like Him, one and only, singular

Moral attributes

Holy – morally perfect, sacred; apart from all impurity or sin

Good – gives to all according to His goodwill and kindness, positive intention

Gracious – generously extending what is undeserved, what is not earned, and cannot be repaid

Loving – desiring another’s highest good, even to the point of laying down His life

Longsuffering – slow to anger, patient, enduring tolerance

Merciful – actively compassionate, withholding a deserved penalty or consequence

Truthful – reality, sure, accurate, whatever God says is without falsehood or deception

Wrathful – holiness and hatred for all that is unrighteous requires Him to punish all that is wicked and evil or deviant from His perfect standard

Wise – always choosing the righteous end and most fitting plan

Righteous – always doingwhat is right and consistent w/ His character

Faithful – always true to His promises and His character

Forgiving – willing and able to grant pardon, cover the debt, and restore to right standing, without anger or resentment

Jealous – unwilling to share His glory or worship, protective of what is rightfully His

Just – fair in His actions, rewards and punishments
