What is the Vallejo Interagency Partnership (VIP)?

The Vallejo Interagency Partnership (VIP) is a program started by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the City of Vallejo and several other Vallejo area agencies. The members of the partnership work together on trash pick-up and maintenance on highly visible entrances and thoroughfares through the city of Vallejo. It started in fall 2012.

Who else is a member of the partnership?

Members include: Caltrans, the City of Vallejo, Great Vallejo Recreational District (GVRD), Vallejo Sanitation Flood Control District (VSFCD), Solano County Sheriff’s Department, Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD), the California Maritime Academy (CMA), and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

Why is Caltrans involved?

Several State Routes through the City of Vallejo are maintained by Caltrans. One of the major routes Highway 29/Sonoma Boulevard is also jointly maintained and operated by Caltrans and the city. Several other state routes also run through Vallejo. They include Highway 29/Sonoma Boulevard, Interstate 80, Interstate 780, and Highway 37.

What does the partnership actually do?

The VIP program partners work together in trash pick-up and major maintenance projects. The group meets periodically to pool resources and work on projects which help beautify main thoroughfares and entrances.

What is the goal of the partnership and what has it accomplished?

The partnership works together to clean and maintain major entrances and busy thoroughfares in Vallejo. It also hopes to raise awareness in the community about litter, weed, and graffiti abatement and encourages you to get active in beautifying where you live, work, and travel-by-often. The program has accomplished several phases from Phase I through Phase VI. The program was also nominated for the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) “2013-Partnership of the Year Award”.

You can get involved through the Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway Program. Or contact an already active Adopt-A-Highway group, some groups welcome individuals who’d like to join them for a day.
