Some reasons why women wanted the vote

· Women should be able to have an interest outside the home, not just being a wife and mother - but having the vote will make them better house keepers

· All the wisest people have realised that decisions based upon the point of view of men and women together are more valuable than those just made by men.

· Women have to obey laws equally with men and they should be able to have a say in how the law is made.

· Women have to pay taxes and so should be able to vote

· If women had the vote they could improve their lives by being able to vote for members of Parliament who would change their situation.

· All the most important and highest paid jobs have been denied to women.

· It was important that women were treated as equals to men.

TASK:

a) Put the reasons why women wanted the vote in order with the most important first and the least important last.

b) Give a reason to explain why you chose your most important reason.

c) Imagine you were Emmeline Pankhurst, using some or all of the reasons, write a short speech (100 Words) explaining why women should be given the right to vote.
