What is the STEM Camp?

Join us for lots of fun with hands on learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math! Camp locations are: Precision Manufacturing Institute (PMI), Edinboro University and Allegheny College/ Creek Connections.

ACTIVITIES

Day 1 Weds. June 14th

Students will be spending one half of the day at PMI, then a trip to the MARC for a tour and lunch with the GROW Meadville youth campers! After lunch we will be bussed to French Creek for Creek Connections then back to the Chamber for pick up.

Engineering: (PMI) Tour the facility and see a real robotics arm in action! Have fun with Math and Physics as you learn how experiments help the engineering process. Safety is a priority in this highly interactive session. Students use real hands on lessons to see how engineering experiments and problem solving are applied in the workplace.

Science: Allegheny College/ Creek Connections will turn French creek by Bicentennial Park into an outdoor laboratory. You will become a scientist as you analyze the water chemistry to begin the stream health assessment. Conduct biological monitoring, to see what macroinvertebrates reveal about stream heath examine insect anatomy to create our own macroinvertabrate.

The rain location will be held on campus in an Allegheny College Science building.

DAY 2 Thurs. June 15th

Technology and Math: Edinboro University, Edinboro PA

Students will be bussed to EU campus where they will experience the Science museum, and a session held in the observatory. After lunch we will tour the Science and Math departments and have fun with Math games and activities as well as ‘gaming’ with the Computer Science Department.

What About Lunch?

Lunch will be provided! No need to bring money! Day one is a tour of MARC community gardens and lunch with the Grow Meadville campers. Day two is lunch hosted by Edinboro University on Main Campus after the observatory tour for all STEM Camp students.

Registration

There is a $45.00 registration fee for the STEM Camp. Registration is limited to approx. 10 female and 10 male students. This limit on registration is set to ensure a “hands on” small group learning experience for the students.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Those experiencing economic difficulties or who may not be able to afford the $45 registration fee can request a camp scholarship by marking the appropriate box on the Alliance Summer Camp registration form. Camp scholarships are awarded on financial need and a scholarship request form will be sent to you.

Of Commerce building (Yellow) 908 Diamond Park

June 14th: Arrive at the yellow Chamber building -908 Diamond Park in Meadville at 8:30am. Students may be picked up after the camp in front of the Chamber building on the Diamond at 3:30pm.

June 15th: Arrive once again at the Chamber building 908 Diamond Park in Meadville at 8:30am. Students may be picked up at this same location after camp at 3:30pm.
