Course Description

This course will consist of a great deal of independent Reading and researching different topics throughout the history of the world. The assigned text is Glencoe: World History Modern Times. You will not have any difficulty if you start organizing and reading the assigned material during the weekend or on your free time. Students will need the following for this class: Notebook/binder and pens (Only use black or blue ink on all assignments), loose leaf paper, correction fluid and highlighters, note cards and a dictionary, sticky pads, pencils for scantrons.

**Concept Notebook is an essential tool for class daily***. It will contain your objectives, essential question, bell ringer, and before, during, after reading strategies.These notes will be used for all tests.

Classroom Procedures and Information

Upon entering the classroom students will adhere to the following:

  1. Students should report directly to their seat and get out materials for the day.
  2. Students should begin working promptly on the “ Power Up” assignment if one is given.
  3. Student should copy date, objective and essential question from board in to Concept Notebook.
  4. If a student completes the latter, he/she should sit quietly and wait for further instructions.
  5. Students must raise hand and wait for Mrs. Ngbwa to acknowledge them before speaking or leaving their seat.
  6. All students are expected to be respectful of instructor and other students.
  7. Students should report to class with the necessary materials.(paper, pen, homework, etc.) and complete work neatly.
  8. Students will be dismissed by the instructor with order after they have cleaned out cubbies and put all trash in container, not when the bell sounds.
  9. Students are responsible for all material presented in the textbook, classroom activities, and any outside work that may be given by the teacher.
  10. Students are required to be directly involved in all lessons and will be expected to actively participate during group work, hands-on learning and technological demonstrations.

Grading

All grades are weighted as follows:

End of Month Test-30% Novels-10% ***Concept Notebook-20%

Mid-Month Test- 30% Projects-10%

Projects

Research Paper, Novels, Book Reports, Library Research-Biographies

Oral Presentations, Article Critiques, Cooperative Learning Projects

Black History Note Card, Teen Newsweek and Weekly Readers

**Note**

Each student will receive a handout for each assignment listed above as the due date approaches for the appropriate assignment.

According to the Sumter County Code of Conduct, each student is expected to adhere to the rules and regulations listed in the manual. Any rule broken by any student will face the following consequences:

1st Offense….Warning and Relocation 2nd Offense… Conference with

Parent, and 3rd Offense…Office Referral

I look forward to working with your wonderful son/daughter; however, I have high expectations for academic performance and behavior while in class. I expect my students to follow the policies and procedures that are necessary for me to be an effective teacher. So that you will know the standards for student behavior and methods of enforcement, you may get a copy of the Sumter County Code of Conduct book from the high school or go online to to read over the requirements for the students of Sumter County. Rules and Regulations

  1. Students must learn to Mind Your Own Business. Only speak out loud in class if the teacher is speaking to you and always raise your hand first. Never comment on other students business that is happened in class.
  2. Students should be quiet in class while the teacher/instructor is teaching. Talking quietly is permitted when doing group work.
  3. Students can get up to stretch legs if they are cramping, but the student must be quiet and not interrupt the class.
  4. Students may bring bottled water to school to drink while in class; however, student must dispose of bottles in the trashcan.
  5. Students must try to use restroom between the exchange of classes; however, if it is an emergency, just raise your hand and point toward door and go and use restroom and come back quickly without disturbing class.
  6. The use of the “n” word is not permitted for use at all!!!!!! It means someone very stupid and we are not stupid!!!
