What HOT promises:

1)One on one sessions with health professionals and health professions students to help you think about what area of the health field fits best with you

2)An assigned mentee within HOT who will work to find programs (service, conferences, summer opportunities) in their field of interest

3)Shadowing experiences with health professionals in your field of interest

4)Opportunity to facilitate the development of a health project in the community of your mentee’s choice, with the support of NHI

What mentors promise:

Mentorship is the most important aspect of the HOT program and mentors have high expectations held to them. The relationship created by the mentor and mentee is the most beneficial part of the program and will have the lasting effect on the students. We ask that applicants for mentorship consider deeply their schedules and workloads outside of the program, as we all live busy lives. If outside commitments are time constricting, we ask that applicants consider the mentees applying to the program and if they are able to meet their needs. We are more than willing to talk about time requirements of the HOT program, if their are more questions. We ask the following of all applicants:

1)To attend the biweekly meetings with their mentees

2)To be responsible, on-time, and to attend 50% of all monthly meetings that HOT helps set up for you

3)Good communication with 2 meetings (online or phone included) a month throughout the program to help create a lasting relationship between mentee and mentor

4)To support and help the mentee develop a community service project in their area of choice

5)To help support mentee through college applications or introductions

6)To help create a safe learning environment with the HOT community
