Vote Sai for EdMedSoc Vice-President
Why this role?
As a stage 2, I have been one of the events officer for EdMedSoc and I really enjoyed being part of this committee and I would like to continue albeit in a different role.
I believe developing medical education is a hugely important part of what we do at the clinical school both in terms of our own education and also us as teachers now and in the future. It makes a world of difference when you have a good teacher who really makes you engage with the subject. EdMedSoc works to achieve exactly this and engage more medical students in becoming better educators and developing medical education which I would love to be a part of again.
What experience do I have?
I have been a member of a number of societies during my time in clinical school which have helped me develop a number of skills which I can bring to the vice president role. As access officer for ClinSoc, I have organised and run a number of events at the clinical school which have been very well attended with excellent feedback.
I have also served as the events officer for EdMedSoc and the Endocrine society. These roles have required me to be organised, time-efficient and committed to ensuring that the events were run smoothly.
As equipment manager for Teddy Bear Hospital, I had to stock and set-up equipment for a number of events, liaising with other members of the team. As co-president of my college medical society, I also learnt the skills important to leading and co-ordinating a team which I think will be ideal for the role of vice-president, someone that needs to be flexible and able to take on a number of roles.
What I hope to do?
Given this is still an undefined role, I will aim to assist the president and other members of the society as required while establishing a mandate for the vice president such as organising more sponsorship and liaising with other societies for joint events as medical education is something that permeates all parts of the clinical school. I will aim to co-ordinate the other members of the committee while also playing an active role in trying to increase the society’s presence both among the medical students and the clinical school.
