(Week of April 16-22)

What Does It Mean to Be a Spiritual Person?

Theme Scripture

(Romans 15:5) Now may the God who supplies endurance and comfort grant you to have among yourselves the same mental attitude that Christ Jesus had,

Paragraph 3

READ (1 Corinthians 2:14-16) But a physical man does not accept the things of the spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot get to know them, because they are examined spiritually. 15However, the spiritual man examines all things, but he himself is not examined by any man. 16For “who has come to know the mind of Jehovah, so that he may instruct him?” But we do have the mind of Christ.

Paragraph 4

(Ephesians 2:2) in which you at one time walked according to the system of things of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.

Paragraph 5

(Galatians 5:19-21) Now the works of the flesh are plainly seen, and they are sexual immorality, uncleanness, brazen conduct, 20idolatry, spiritism, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, dissensions, divisions, sects, 21envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and things like these. I am forewarning you about these things, the same way I already warned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.

(Proverbs 7:21, 22) She misleads him with great persuasiveness. She seduces him with smooth speech. 22Suddenly he goes after her, like a bull to the slaughter, Like a fool to be punished in the stocks,

(Jude 18, 19) how they used to say to you: “In the last time there will be ridiculers, following their own desires for ungodly things.” 19These are the ones who cause divisions, animalistic men, not having spirituality.

Paragraph 6

(Ephesians 5:1) Therefore, become imitators of God, as beloved children,

(Psalm 119:33) Teach me, O Jehovah, the way of your regulations, And I will follow it to the end.

(Psalm 143:10) Teach me to do your will, For you are my God. Your spirit is good; May it lead me on level ground.

(Galatians 5:22, 23) On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Paragraph 7

(Matthew 5:3) “Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them.

(Romans 8:6) For setting the mind on the flesh means death, but setting the mind on the spirit means life and peace;

Paragraph 9

(1 Corinthians 3:1-4) So, brothers, I was not able to speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to fleshly men, as to infants in Christ. 2I fed you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet strong enough. In fact, neither are you strong enough now, 3for you are still fleshly. Since there are jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and are you not walking as men do? 4For when one says, “I belong to Paul,” but another says, “I to A·polʹlos,” are you not acting like mere men?

Paragraph 10

(Genesis 28:10-15) Jacob departed from Beʹer-sheʹba and kept going toward Haʹran. 11In time he came to a place and prepared to spend the night there because the sun had set. So he took one of the stones of that place and set it to rest his head on and lay down there. 12Then he had a dream, and look! there was a stairway set on the earth, and its top reached up to the heavens; and there were God’s angels ascending and descending on it. 13And look! there was Jehovah stationed above it, and he said: “I am Jehovah the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you are lying, to you I am going to give it and to your offspring. 14And your offspring will certainly become like the dust particles of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and by means of you and by means of your offspring all the families of the ground will certainly be blessed. 15I am with you, and I will safeguard you wherever you go, and I will return you to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

(Genesis 32:6-12) In time the messengers returned to Jacob, saying: “We met your brother Eʹsau, and he is now on his way to meet you, and there are 400 men with him.” 7And Jacob became very frightened and anxious. So he divided the people who were with him, as well as the flocks, the cattle, and the camels, into two camps. 8He said: “If Eʹsau attacks the one camp, then the other camp will be able to escape.” 9After that Jacob said: “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Jehovah, you who are saying to me, ‘Return to your land and to your relatives, and I will deal well with you,’ 10I am unworthy of all the loyal love and of all the faithfulness that you have shown toward your servant, for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan and now I have become two camps. 11Save me, I pray you, from the hand of my brother Eʹsau, for I am afraid of him that he may come and attack me, as well as the mothers and their children. 12And you have said: ‘I will certainly deal well with you, and I will make your offspring like the grains of sand of the sea, which are too numerous to count.’”

Paragraph 11

READ (Luke 1:46-55) And Mary said: “My soul magnifies Jehovah, 47and my spirit cannot keep from being overjoyed at God my Savior, 48because he has looked upon the low position of his slave girl. For look! from now on all generations will declare me happy, 49because the powerful One has done great deeds for me, and holy is his name, 50and for generation after generation his mercy is upon those who fear him. 51He has acted mightily with his arm; he has scattered those who are haughty in the intention of their hearts. 52He has brought down powerful men from thrones and has exalted lowly ones; 53he has fully satisfied hungry ones with good things and has sent away empty-handed those who had wealth. 54He has come to the aid of Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, 55just as he spoke to our forefathers, to Abraham and to his offspring, forever.”

(Genesis 30:13) Then Leʹah said: “With my happiness! For the daughters will certainly pronounce me happy.” So she named him Ashʹer.

(1 Samuel 2:1-10) Then Hanʹnah said in prayer: “My heart rejoices in Jehovah; My horn is exalted by Jehovah. My mouth is opened wide against my enemies, For I rejoice in your acts of salvation. 2There is no one holy like Jehovah, There is no one but you, And there is no rock like our God. 3Do not keep speaking with haughtiness; Let nothing arrogant come from your mouth, For Jehovah is a God of knowledge, And by him deeds are rightly evaluated. 4The bows of mighty men are shattered, But those who are stumbling are given strength. 5The well-fed must hire themselves out for bread, But the hungry hunger no more. The barren has given birth to seven, But she who had many sons has become desolate. 6Jehovah kills, and he preserves life; He brings down to the Grave, and he raises up. 7Jehovah impoverishes, and he enriches; He abases, and he exalts. 8He raises the lowly one from the dust; He lifts up the poor from the ash heap, To make them sit with princes, Giving them a seat of honor. To Jehovah belong earth’s supports, And he places the productive land upon them. 9He guards the steps of his loyal ones, But the wicked will be silenced in darkness, For not by power does a man prevail. 10Jehovah will shatter those fighting against him; He will thunder against them from the heavens. Jehovah will judge to the ends of the earth, He will give power to his king And exalt the horn of his anointed one.”

(Malachi 3:12) “All the nations will have to declare you happy, for you will become a land of delight,” says Jehovah of armies.

(Matthew 1:25) But he did not have sexual relations with her until she gave birth to a son, and he named him Jesus.

(Luke 2:51) Then he went down with them and returned to Nazʹa·reth, and he continued subject to them. Also, his mother carefully kept all these sayings in her heart.

Paragraph 12

(John 8:29) And the One who sent me is with me; he did not abandon me to myself, because I always do the things pleasing to him.”

(John 14:9) Jesus said to him: “Even after I have been with you men for such a long time, Philip, have you not come to know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father also. How is it you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

(John 15:10) If you observe my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have observed the commandments of the Father and remain in his love.

READ (Isaiah 63:9) During all their distress it was distressing to him. And his own personal messenger saved them. In his love and compassion he repurchased them, And he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

READ (Mark 6:34) Well, on getting out, he saw a large crowd, and he was moved with pity for them, because they were as sheep without a shepherd. And he started to teach them many things.

(Luke 4:43) But he said to them: “I must also declare the good news of the Kingdom of God to other cities, because for this I was sent.”

Paragraph 14

(Matthew 6:33, 34) “Keep on, then, seeking first the Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these other things will be added to you. 34So never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles.

(1 Corinthians 11:1) Become imitators of me, just as I am of Christ.

(2 Thessalonians 3:7) For you yourselves know how you should imitate us, because we did not behave in a disorderly way among you,

Paragraph 15

(1 Corinthians 2:16) For “who has come to know the mind of Jehovah, so that he may instruct him?” But we do have the mind of Christ.

(Romans 15:5) Now may the God who supplies endurance and comfort grant you to have among yourselves the same mental attitude that Christ Jesus had,

Paragraph 16

(Acts 10:39) And we are witnesses of all the things he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; but they did away with him by hanging him on a stake.

(1 Peter 2:21) In fact, to this course you were called, because even Christ suffered for you, leaving a model for you to follow his steps closely.

(1 Peter 4:1) Since Christ suffered in the flesh, you too arm yourselves with the same mental disposition; because the person who has suffered in the flesh has desisted from sins,

Paragraph 17

(Romans 13:14) But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not be planning ahead for the desires of the flesh.
