Calculating theEqualitiesRiskScore
Youwill needtocalculate a risk scoretwice:
1.Ontheinherentriskof theproposalitself(withouttaking into accountanymitigatingactionsyoumayidentifyattheendoftheEquality Analysis (EA)process)
2.Onthe risk thatremains (the residualrisk)aftermitigatingactionshave beenidentified
This isnecessaryat bothpoints to:
- Firstly,identifywhether anEA needs tobe completedfor theproposaland;
- Secondly, tounderstandwhatriskwould be left iftheactionsidentified tomitigateagainstanyadverse impactare implemented
Stage 1- to get the inherentriskrating:
1.Use theEqualitiesRiskCriteria Tablebelowand scoreeachcriterionona scaleof1-4for theimpactand1 – 4 on theirlikelihoodofoccurrence.Multiplythese2scorestogether (Likelihood xImpact) togetascore for that criterion(this willrange from1–16).
2.Record each of these scores in the table at the beginning of this document
3.Assess whetheryouneedtocarryout anEAusingthe guidanceboxbelow(stage 2).
Stage 2- toidentifywhether anEAneedsto be carried out:
If yourinherentriskscore(for any criteria) is:
12–16orRed = High Risk.An EqualityAnalysismust be completed.Significantriskswhichhave tobeactivelymanaged; reducethe likelihoodand/orimpactthroughcontrolmeasures.
6–9 orAmber=MediumRisk. An Equality Analysismust be completed.Manageablerisks, controls tobeput inplace;managersshouldconsider thecostofimplementingcontrolsagainstthebenefit in thereductionofriskexposure.
3–4 orGreen= LowRisk.An EqualityAnalysismust be completed
1–2 orGreen= LowRisk. An EqualityAnalysisdoesnot have to be completed
Stage 3-toget theresidualriskrating:
1.Repeattheprocessabovewhenmitigatingactions havebeenidentifiedandevidenced inthe table on page 3 tocalculatetheresidualrisk
2.Make a noteoftheresidualrisk scorein thetable on the first page oftheEA template
