Investigations Officer

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

·  lead and conduct environmental investigations

·  obtain, examine and analyze evidence (documentary, expert and samples)

·  maintain an electronic record of investigation activities

·  conduct interviews, execute search warrants and cross examine witnesses

·  prepare and assist with prosecutions as a Provincial Officer

·  prepare Crown briefs and assist Crown Counsel

Location: 435 James Street South, Thunder Bay, Ontario

How do I qualify?
Mandatory:

·  you must possess a valid Class G Ontario driver's licence to carry out investigations in locations not accessible by public transportation

·  you will have a CPIC check including a police records check

Investigations Knowledge:

·  you have knowledge and experience applying investigative techniques and procedures

·  you understand court procedures

·  you have the demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation (e.g. Provincial Offenses Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Environmental Protection Act)

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

·  you have demonstrated analytical and evaluative skills to review evidence and facts and draw conclusions

·  you can assess and interpret findings and make recommendations on investigative results

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

·  you have well-developed communication skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders such as witnesses, complainants and industry representatives

·  you can consolidate, discuss and present evidence with the ability to explain technical and scientific evidence and information

·  you can draft written materials such as reports and briefings

·  you have strong interpersonal skills to obtain information from suspects, witnesses, complainants and others who may be unwilling or evasive

·  you can prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines

·  The successful candidate will be required to undergo a satisfactory criminal reference check prior to the commencement of employment.

Salary range: $1,426.88 – $1,742.42 per week
