What are the International Training and Assessment Courses?

Across the Asia-Pacificregionthere is strong demand for upskilling in thearea of training andassessment. Qualitytrainers andassessors are the foundation ofa modern industry relevanttraining system. As many countries attempt to increase their skill levels,the demand for high qualitytrainers and assessors grows.

The international training & assessment courses are a set of internationally-relevant courses developed by the Australian Government, under the International Skills Training (IST) initiative. The courses have been developed in partnership with industry, to help supportthe global demand for skilled trainers and assessors.

The three courses fulfil different training and assessment needs. The TVET Trainer Course and TVET Assessor Course provide learners with a vocational background, the skills to train or assess learners in their industry of expertise.

The TVET Advanced Trainer and Assessor Coursegiveslearners the skills to take up a leadership role within a training organisation, enterprise or industry.

How will these courses be delivered?

The courses are delivered offshore by registered Australian training organisations, in partnership with local training providers, state governments, and/or private employers.

Training providers have the flexibility to deliver the courses to learners using a blended approach; face-to-face delivery and online learning. The adaptable and flexible design of the courses lends itself to delivery across all skills training sectors and industries.

All learners who successfully complete a course will be awarded a completion certificate carrying the AustraliaFuture Unlimited brand. The Australian Government is working with national governments and relevant organisations to ensure these courses are recognised internationally.

These courses complement Australian training and assessment Qualifications being delivered offshore. They offer different and additional educational services tailored for the international context tosupportoverseas skills training and scalability needs.

What are the benefits of the courses?

Learners who successfully complete the courses will be able to make a significant contribution to technical vocational education and training (TVET) in their country.

Appropriately skilled trainers will have the confidence and capacity to make reasoned judgements when training, including adapting teaching materials and learning techniques to meet industry and learner needs.

Skilled assessors will help to meet the needs of industry and enterprises through assessing learners' skills and knowledge for the workplace.

Finally, the advanced trainer and assessor will assume a critical role in the development of skilled trainers and assessors, equipped with the knowledge and capability to help shape professional practice in the vocational education system.

In completing a course specifically designed for an international context, participants will develop skills of an international standard and possess greater employability and workforce mobility to operate in the global economy.

Course descriptors

TVET Trainer course

This course reflects the roles of individuals delivering training in the technical vocational education and training sector.

Entry requirements

Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in the industry area where they will be training. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include,but is not limited to, industry experience or holding arelevant qualification.

Requirements of the Course

Learners must complete all of the following units:

  • Prepare to deliver competency-based training and assessment
  • Deliver competency-based training
  • Prepare learners for formative assessment

TVET Assessor course

This course reflects the roles of individuals assessing competence in the technical vocational education and training sector.

Entry Requirements

Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in the industry area where they will be assessing. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include,but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit or qualification.

Requirements of the Course

Learners must complete all of the following units:

  • Prepare to deliver competency-based training and assessment
  • Conduct competency-based assessment
  • Participate in assessment validation
  • Assess for recognition of existing skills and knowledge

TVET Advanced Trainer and Assessor course

Course description

The advanced trainer and assessor in TVET is highly knowledgeable about training and facilitating practices, takes a strategic approach to TVET, and has extensive knowledge of systems and processes for developing effective learning and assessment materials to improve professional practice in TVET.

This course reflects the roles of individuals who train others to become TVET trainers and assessors.

Completion of all six units in both the TVET Trainer and theTVET Assessor courses is a mandatory requirement forentry into the TVET Advanced Trainer and Assessor Course.

Requirements of the course

Learners must complete all of the followingunits:

  • Provider leadership in training and assessment
  • Design training programs, learning resources and develop assessment tools
  • Engage with industry for learning partnerships
  • Mentor trainers and assessors
  • Evaluate training and assessment programs
