1HIGHLIGHTS

  • WFP continues to provide logistics services such as transportation, warehousingand information coordination free of charge to the Humanitarian Community.
  • Common services that will be guaranteeduntilthe 31st of March 2009, but,if still considered essential by the Cluster participants, WFP can continue providing them also after this term on a full cost recovery basis.

10UPDATE FROM THE AGENCIES

UNHCR

  • UNHCR continues distributions of:
  • Foldable beds
  • Mattresses
  • Blankets,
  • Pillows
  • bed linens
  • Hot water rubber bottles
  • vacuum flask
  • electric heaters

Distributions of these items are on going in Tbilisi Collective Centers and started this week also to new and old IDPs in Kakheti Region.

  • Plans for new distribution of similar commodities in west Georgia are being finalised and will be shared soon.
  • UNHCRduring week 8, with WFP help, distributed 800 Cubic Meter of firewood (55 trucks) in Gori region,

FAO (brief received by mail)

  • Receipt of FAO 4200 MT of Animal Feed in WFP Interagency warehouse has started.
    This joint operation is regulated by WFP/FAO Service Level Agreementsigned on 20 December 2008.
  • So far 1500 MT have been delivered from the fodder factory to WFP Interagency warehouse in Tbilisi, for the need of Tbilisi area.
  • From there1330.74 MT have been distributed through WFP services to 44 villages
  • During week 10 a first tranche out of three of 700 MT each of Animal Feed for Gori region will be delivered to WFP warehouse in Gori.
  • The delivery will be done by a convoy of 35 trucks coming from Turkey.
  • Other then these 3 tranches, 3 more are expected to arrive from Holland in 3 shipments, ETAs Poti on week 12, 13 and 14.

ACF

  • ACF distributions of Hygiene Kitsand new Born Kits continues:
  • 850 Hygine kits are being distributing in Shida Kartli region and
  • 1150in Kvemo Kartli
  • 200 New Born kits are being distributing in Gori district and Miskheta, and
  • 300 in Kvemo Kartli
  • Future plans foresee the distribution of 100 Hygine kits in Kvemo Kartli
  • ACF has also 300 extra New Born kits that are being offered to the Cluster Participants
  • ACF’s Distributions should be completed by next week and for the moment
    no other distributions are foresee as ACF is undertaking negotiations with donors on future plans.

WFP

  • WFP reminded Cluster participants that the services that are being provided free of charge to the Humanitarian Community such as transportation, warehousing and information coordinationwill be guaranteed until the 31st of March 2009.
  • Services that, if still considered essential by the Cluster participants,WFP can continue to provide also after this term but on a full cost recovery basis.
  • WFP requested to Cluster participants to start thinking on the future of the Cluster approach itself as needs are changing.
