Membership Meeting Minutes – March 7, 2017

This evening we welcomed Dr. Abby Taylor, from Animal Hospital Northview, speaking on the topic of Surgical Emergencies and Things that Happen to Bring us to Surgery. It was a most interesting talk and prompted many good questions from the members present. We all learned a lot and the discussion that followed was spirited and very interesting.

Topics that Dr. Taylor touched on were:

  • Hemoabdomen, blood filled abdomen
  • Pyometrea which happens only to females, can be treated medically-ish.
  • Dystacia: big puppies, dead puppies, large number of puppies in litter
  • Prolonged labor
  • Complications that can result in dead puppies, rupture of uterine, costing between $1,200 and $2,500.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a quorum this evening, so we could not conduct a regular business meeting.

There will be a Board Meeting on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Details will be provided.

Respectfully submitted,

Carole L. Cerny

OLD BUSINESS:

  • We continued to discuss the establishment of a new club, within the Western Reserve Kennel Club, Inc. called The Friends of the Western Reserve Kennel Club, Inc.,and would be a 501-C-7. This club within our club would help fund social events, etc. We talked about a one-time assessment of $40.00 in 2017 in addition to the $15.00 annual membership dues paid yearly. Of the 13 members present, 8 would pay the one-time assessment.
  • It would be considered a dual membership.
  • We also discussed the possibility of cutting the number of meetings to attend during the year.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • We have Agility Trials scheduled with Cleveland All Breed for January 28-29, 2017 and February 18-19, 2017.
  • Ann Yuhasz asked the members of the Board this evening if they felt it was necessary to hold BOD meetings during January and February. After a brief discussion, it was decided that WRKC would not hold Board meetings during January and February due to unpredictable weather conditions in the Cleveland area. Should an urgent matter need to come before the BOD, we reserve the right to call an emergency BOD meeting at that time. The Board didn’t want to use a conference call for these meetings because it becomes difficult to hear all that is going on while on the line. Our
