Crunch & Sip School Grants
March, 2014
Guidelines and Application Form
1. Principals, Public Health Nurses, and Teachers are encouraged to apply for a school grant to encourage healthy eating with students in western NLESD during Nutrition Month (March) and beyond. The emphasis this year is on fruit and vegetable consumption, and in particular, we are highlighting the Crunch & Sip Campaign in which students are permitted to bring a piece of fruit or vegetable and a bottle of water to have at their desk in the afternoon.
2. Applications must be received no later than Thursday, February 20, 2014. Please email, mail, or fax applications to:
Bill Allan, School Health Promotion Consultant
Newfoundland and Labrador English School District
10 Wellington Street, Corner Brook, NL, A2H 6G9
Fax: (709) 634-1828 or E-Mail:
3. The maximum grant available will be $250 per school. The review of the school proposals will take into account:
· number of students participating
· number of requests for funding
· length of time for the proposed initiative
· efforts to educate students and parents to promote healthy eating.
4. Projects that demonstrate sustainability and will continue on past March 31, 2014, will get priority. Schools are encouraged to work with their public health nurse in planning health promotion activities.
5. Successful applicants will receive a brief Evaluation Form to complete after the activity.
6. In the case where the total amount of the grant awarded was not spent, the remaining funds should be returned to Bill Allan with a cheque payable to the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District.
