I. / Introduction& Updates – Lisa Sellers
Updates & Announcements / Tracy informed the group she is still considering the nomination for Advisory Chairperson.
Tracy also invited members to sign up for upcoming Town of Cary community meetings. More information can be found on the Town of Cary website.
Sharon announced that Wake Technical Community College is planning a Health Fair in October.
Lisa reported that Wake County Human Services has fully divested of Behavior Health services as of June 30, 2013. Monarch was awarded the contract to take on WCHS’s mental health and substance abuse clients. Group members expressed concern that many clients may be dropped in the transition and therefore not receive necessary treatment.
Lisa thanked Pastor Ham and Genesis for once again sponsoring WCHS western region families. Genesis will also sponsor backpack buddies for WCHS.

II. / Strategic Planning and Wake County Human Service’s Service Integration Team– Karen Morant
Presentation & Discussion: / Karen provided the group with an overview of the assessments of service delivery conducted in the Western Region. She also focused on the Western Regional Community Advisory Committee’s (WR CAC) charge via PowerPoint:
- Asset Mapping conducted over the last 5 years indicates many community assets in the Western Region
- Decision “Not to Build a regional center”, but develop a Network of Care service delivery approach.
- WR CAC was establishedto develop a network of care in the western region
- Staff work groups have conducted Asset Mapping of county and community services, support-resources and capabilities to develop a network of care
- Staff workgroup is developing a virtual website development including a partnership-map of services in the western region

III. / Strategic Planning - Western Regional Report – Karen Morant
Discussion:
Handout / Community Demographic data collected during the Learning Conversationsas part of the 2011 Western Region Assessment was share, indicating community assets.The Learning Conversations were gathering of residents and provider in the region. WCHS Service Integration goal is to increase access to basic services needed by residents in the Western Region.

IV. / Wake County Human Service’s Service Integration Team– Lisa Sellers
Discussion:
Handout / WCHS’s Service Integration staff team has reviewed the mapped community assets, mapped county services and are exploring how to increases accessibility to basic services: Medicaid, Food and Nutrition, WIC, and Clinic Services. Small staff workgroup are working to address the gaps in service delivery of each of basic services. Additionally, integration of services to Flu Clinic and HIV/STD services in the region have been adopted at immediate business improvement practices to meet demand for those services. The small workgroup members are in conversations with the division and program leaders who reported at the CAC meetings.
Lisa provided CAC with a handout of FY12 service usage by WCHS clients. Data was present by regions and programs for review and discussion. It was reported that the WCHS’s Service Integration staff team has indicated community partnerships as a critical factor to increasing access to county services and or increasing other needed services.
CAC members agreed that sharing space with community partners i.e. Dorcas, to deliver specific services was a possible solution to service gaps. It was also reported that increase usage of technology in currently underway statewide to increase access to applying for Food and Nutrition services. Another resource can be community volunteers to assist clients with navigating the technology to access services. Lisa added that WCHS has not yet assigned a full time person, such as a Region Director, to the Western Region to coordinate partnerships and support the work of the CAC. Sufficient technology is also necessary to link service partners in the virtual network of care. CAC members were invited and encourage to a small work group to the S.C.O.R.E. for increasing accessibility for the basic services. It was also announced that the staff teams will attend a CAC meeting at some point.
