WEST SOMERSET RAILWAY
INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEERS
DEPARTMENT: GaugeMuseum Model Railway
INTRODUCTION: The Model Railway is situated in the gallery of the GaugeMuseum at Bishops Lydeard. It is 00 Gauge and analogue control. The basic layout is provided and maintained by the building group, rolling stock is provided and operated by individual operators who run the exhibition on their rostered days. The exhibition is open to the public and the basic structure is maintained through public contributions.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- To provide a suitable display and entertainment to our railway visitors within the GaugeMuseum. In 2011 we had 9,643 visitors.
- The exhibition appeals to all ages and at all times requires communicating with our visitors on model railway matters and sometimes wider issues relating to the WSR.
- Dealing with enquiries from visitors including timetable, and other general queries;
- Need for respectable dress although railway uniform is not compulsory.
- At times a willingness to share the task and assets with other operators.
RESTRICTIONS:
- Operators need to be aged 16 or over and have good communication skills. We welcome Trackers to join us as trainees.
- Volunteers MUST be willing and able to work with young people.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Operators are rostered for duty up to a week in advance. It is important that you attend for any duties for which you have volunteered
Operators should be clean, tidy and look the part,uniform, equipment including and comply with Railway policies.They always promote the Railway to the public and other volunteers in a positive manner.
