Wessex Institute Assistant Research Manager –Research on Research

The following list supplements the Wessex Institute Assistant Research Manager job description and provides a more specific (but not exhaustive) indication of the work carried out within the team.

1.Planning and Organising

  • Manage the coordination of a number of research projects, helping to develop project plans, monitor progress against these and highlighting where there are delays or problems which will impact on delivery.
  • Organise internal and external activities and meetings, including collating agenda papers as requested, booking venues, co-ordinating diaries,ensuring activities/meetings are run smoothly and circulating minutes.
  • Contribute to a range of projects and help to plan and prioritise short and medium term work activities in response to the Senior Research Fellows’ requests
  • Work with the team to co-ordinate training opportunities and organise training sessions for research staff within NETSCC
  • Develop standard procedures and support continuous improvement of business processes
  • Representing the Research on Research team at specific internal meetings (such as the Patient Public Involvement Group)

2.Analysis and reporting

  • Work with researchers to develop clear requirements for data extraction and support data retrieval or quality assurance of data.
  • Perform detailed manipulation, analysis and/or evaluation of information or workflow processes to support both coordination of the research programme and delivery of individual projects
  • Support the write up of research findings where appropriate
  • Provide adhoc reporting for the Senior Management Team on request

3.Dissemination and engagement

  • Work with colleagues from across NETSCC and more widely across NIHR to gather research suggestions, support business audits and disseminate the results of research through a variety of mechanisms.
  • Support business colleagues to implement the findings of research where relevant
  • Work with members of the team, and cross NIHR, to disseminate the results of research projects, attending meetings locally and nationally when appropriate.
  • Actively support internal communication of RoR projects and outputs
  • Co-ordinate conference attendance and abstract submissions including assisting in identifying potential events
  • Maintain systems to manage RoR outputs and publications

4.Supporting Research projects

  • Maintain an oversight of the research pipeline including potential new projects and collaborations through our IT systems
  • Signpost researchers to relevant publications of interest
  • Work with lead researchers to scope projects and support ethics submissions when required
  • Assist in the development of standard research documents e.g. protocol, participant information sheets, informed consent
  • Support close working with collaborators across NIHR, the University and other organisations.
