Welsh Clinical Leadership Training Fellowship (WCLTF)

Following on from the success of theWelsh Clinical Leadership Training Fellowship (WCLTF) scheme, the Wales Deanery in association with NHS Wales, the Welsh Government, and other health related organisations is pleased to announce the continuation of the scheme for August/September 2018.

These Fellowships are designed to develop high quality clinical leaders for the future NHS. Graduates form the Welsh Clinical Leadership Training (WCLTF) scheme will be ideally placed to build and lead development and improvements in the delivery of health care. This is a one year Out Of Programme scheme.

The scheme will provide training and experience in clinical leadership and management and will equip Fellows with the range of knowledge and skills they require to compete as medical and dental leaders in the modern NHS. The aim of the scheme is to recruit the most aspiring clinical leaders of the future. In addition the scheme provides a structured educational component delivered by Academi Wales.

Successful applicants will undertake a leadership and management project identified from proposals submitted by healthcare organisations in Wales, which are designed to provide appropriate experience in Health Service management. As part of this, each WCLT Fellow will be given a specific task (or tasks) to deliver in collaboration with senior management colleagues within the timeframe of the fellowship.

The programme equips the Leadership Fellows with a range of knowledge, skills and experience required to be credible and influential medical leaders in a future modern NHS.

Applicants for the WCLTF programme should be Medical (including GP and Public Health) or Dental Trainees who are considering involvement in Clinical Leadership and Health Service Management at the completion of their training.

Applicants should currently be at:

Specialty Training / GP Training / Dental Training
ST 3 or above / ST 2 or above / Dental Core Training Year 2 or above

and be eligible to take one year Out of Programme to undertake this role.Prior to applying for the Fellowship, applicants are required to obtain written confirmation of the support of their Training Programme Director for the Out of Programme request. GPs trainees must submit the request to the GP Education Group. Candidates wishing to train flexibly are welcomed and should indicate this on their application.

Fellows will be offered the opportunity to to continue clinical duties up to a maximum of 20% of their time.
