EAST PENN SCHOOL DISTRICT AQUATICS AND WELLNESS/FITNESS SYLLABUS

SECONDARY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, WELLNESS/FITNESS AND DRIVER EDUCATION

PHILOSOPHY OF WELLNESS/FITNESS EDUCATION: All students should be given the opportunity to work at their own ability level in each of the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Students will be assessed daily in each domain with emphasis put towards working to improve overall physical activity. Overall goal is to guide students toward taking part in lifetime physical activity.

Examples:Cognitive Domain: During a weight-training unit, explain how an exercise affects the body.

Affective Domain: During a volleyball unit, communicating to your teammates.

Psychomotor: During fitness testing, working as hard as you can to get your best score.

WELLNESS/FITNESS GRADING SYSTEM

Your grade in a wellness/fitness class is based on a DAILY GRADE, including teacher observation, being prepared for class, cognitive assessments, heart rates (see rubric on back) and any additional assignment given by your teacher. The total amount of points possible for each day is “5” (see rubric on back). Your teacher will provide the point value for any additional assignments.

  • Each student must make up class after 2 gratis absences during each quarter.
  • All make-ups, no matter what the reason, must be completed within 10 school days.

WELLNESS/FITNESS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

The health and safety of our students is foremost in our teachers' minds. Therefore:

  • Students must furnish their own athletic attire and/or swim suits, towels, bathing caps, nose clips, ear plugs, and goggles as necessary. Appropriate athletic attire consists of a shirt and shorts that is neither drug related, sexually explicit or ethnically degrading. Appropriate bathing suits for females are one piece or a tank-ini.
  • No jewelry of any kind may be worn during participation in class.
  • Footwear is to be sneakers that are athletic in nature with a closed front and back. Sneakers must be tied and laced as designed by the manufacturer. No platform/elevated soles will be permitted.
  • Students are responsible for putting their equipmentand valuables into their lockersand locking them. Each student willbe issued a school combination lock.
  • The replacement cost of a lost lock is $10.00
  • Showers after classes are available. Students taking aquatics are stronglyencouraged to shower before andafter entering the pool.
  • Students must remain in the locker room until the bell rings. Leaving early will result in a class cut.
