Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to what we expect to be a wonderful seventh grade year.
The seventh grade is structured in an interdisciplinary team configuration. The teachers are experts in their disciplines. The teams are comprised of integrated language arts, social studies, and science. Our mathematics consists of three levels and our language arts consists of two levels. The seventh grade has two physical education teachers and a staff of enrichment teachers.
The purpose of this first communication is to inform you of the behavioral and academic expectations within our classrooms. This information and much more will be discussed with your child during the first few days of this new school year. We ask that you please sign and return the bottom portion.
We hope that the school and home will work together to ensure the best possible learning experience for your child. You will find us always willing to communicate regarding your child. Please take a few minutes to read this information thoroughly and make yourself aware of what is expected from you and your child.
SUGGESTIONS:
- Be prompt and prepared for class
- No physical disturbances
- No verbal disturbances
- Respect the rights and property of others
- No gum chewing, phones, texting or ipod/mp3 player use in class
- Appropriate dress
CONSEQUENCES:
- Warning
- Note sent home, telephone call or e-mail
- Class suspension
- Office intervention/parent conference
As you can see, your child will have several opportunities to modify his/her behavior should the need arise. We encourage your support and cooperation.
You can contact teachers and check homework on the school web page. Look for links to staff e-mail, web pages, and Teacher Web.
Each student will be given a Binder Reminder at the beginning of the year. This is to be brought to each class every day! It is the student’s responsibility to write homework assignments in the appropriate place each day. If there is no assigned homework, the student is to write “No Homework” in that space. If your child has completed daily assignments, their homework should be reading, studying for tests and conducting research for projects. Parents are asked to review their child’s Binder Reminder every evening.
Supplies (suggested, but not required):
In order to assure a more productive and better organized school year, we suggest that each student bring the following items and materials to class every day.
1. One large, three ring notebook with tab dividers
2. Lined notebook paper, unbound to put in notebook
3. Blue or black ball point pens
4. #2 pencils and erasers
5. Accelerated Reader (AR) book
6. Blue, green, red pens for Jane Schaffer Writing
7. Yellow Hi-Liter pens
8. Colored pencils
9. Pencil pocket
10. Binder Reminder (issued at school)
11. Book bag or backpack
12. Scientific calculator
13. Small scissors, glue stick and small personal stapler
Students are encouraged to stay current with all required work. Late work will not be accepted for full credit except in cases involving excused absences. If a student is absent one day, work that is assigned on that day should be submitted the day after they return. If there is an assignment due on the day absent then work must be submitted on the day of return. We do expect students to complete all assigned work. Internet access is available in the library if it is not available at home.
If your child has little or no homework please encourage them to read for Accelerated Reader (AR). Accelerated Reader is considered to be homework for five nights a week.
We share this information hoping to help both you and your student experience and enjoy the most successful school year possible.
If you have a specific question, you may call the school and ask to speak to the appropriate teacher or your child’s seventh grade advisor.
WE EXPECT THAT ALL SUZANNE CHALLENGERS WILL BE AT THEIR BEST AT ALL TIMES!
Here’s to a great year!
Sincerely,
The Seventh Grade Staff
