Welcome to the Orange Team!

We are very excited to have your child as part of our team this year! Eighth grade year is a very important year filled with many academic endeavors as well as team and grade level activities. Our goal is to work with you to give your child the best possible eighth grade experience. To get us off to a successful beginning, here is a list of supplies each team teacher would like your student to have for their class:

·  History: 1 inch blue binder with a pocket folder. Pens and pencils.

·  Math: 1 inch red binder with 3 tab dividers, filler paper, and a pocket folder. Pencils and a pen are a MUST! (I recommend mechanical pencils, the pencil sharpeners can be a struggle).

·  Science: 1 inch green binder with 5 tab dividers, filler paper, and a pocket folder. Pencils and a pen are a MUST! (I recommend mechanical pencils, the pencil sharpeners can be a struggle).

·  Language Arts: 1 inch black binder with 5 tab dividers and filler paper. Pen or pencil.

We are working to help your child transition to high school and organization is essential to their success both this year and in their future as they become more and more independent. If you need help attaining these supplies for your child, please do not hesitate to let one of us know and we will be happy to help.

Open house for eighth grade will be on August 28th, 4-6pm. As a grade level, we have changed the format of open house to provide you with more ways to support your student. At open house we will help you set up accounts and show you how to use the following technology which we will be using this year:

·  Aspen (our grading program)

·  Remind (a messaging system to share information)

·  Facebook (another messaging system to share information)

·  Team Homework Page

·  Acellus (an opportunity for students to work independently to strengthen their academic skills)

·  Quizlet (a free study tool for students)

You will also receive class syllabi and we will discuss the class trip to Boston which will take place in June.

The schedule for that evening is as follows:

·  4:00-4:30pm -- Orange Team will meet in the cafeteria for a brief introductory meeting.

·  4:35-5:20pm -- Orange Team will move to the computer lab, room 108, where teachers will help them learn how to access and use the technology listed above.

·  5:20-6:00pm – Free time for parents and students to go to lockers and to visit other classrooms.

It is very important that you arrive at PCS no later than 4pm. This is a structured event. If you do arrive late, please go to the appropriate location based on the schedule above.

We are very excited for the upcoming school year! If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Speight at . We look forward to meeting you on August 28th.
