Green’s Director’s Report

During the month 62 stumps have been cut down and a stump grinder brought in to remove the stumps. The cost of the stump grinder was shared by The Sporters and the Vets.

Sand from the old 17th fairway was removed and stockpiled for future use on the course. The chook manure has also been spread.

Thank you to Ian & Dale Farmers and the other volunteers for their ongoing assistance in and around the course.

If you see Nigel & Dylan on the course either say hello or give them a wave. Without them the course would not be in such good shape as it is.

Greenkeeper’s Blog

I am sure you are all aware of the persistent hot weather which is fairly typical for this time of year, making it almost impossible to present a healthy green home lawn. So, here are a couple of tips to hopefully make some gains.

Apply wetting agents. Dead and dry turf thatch become waxy as it decays and becomes water repellent, so a lot of the irrigation you might apply just beads and runs off the surface. Wetting agents remedy this. Seasol have introduced a wetting agent in with their seaweed feed and is a very good and affordable product. When applying wetting agent ensure it is well watered in as it can bleach turf grass.

Joke: “The Jigsaw Puzzle”

A little silver-haired lady calls her neighbour and says, “Please come over and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle and I can’t figure out how to get started”. Her neighbour asks, “What it is supposed to be when it is finished?” The little silver-haired lady says, “According to the picture on the box, it’s a rooster.” The neighbour decides to go over and help with the puzzle. She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table. He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, “First of all no matter what we do, we’re not going to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster.” He takes her hand and says, “Secondly, I want you to relax. Let’s have a nice cup of tea and then,” he said with a deep sigh ...... “Let’s put all the Cornflakes back in the box.”

[Include upcoming competitions; ideas for events/functions to promote club; ideas for membership drive].
