Middle and High School Text Book Adoption Completed!

As you know by now, high schools chose text books by school site and middle schools chose text books by local district. Our local district committee, which had representatives from all our middle schools, selected the following text books:

6th History Alive!

7th History Alive!

8th Prentice Hall

A History Alive! LD7 training/orientation to make sure that all teachers are ready to utilize the History Alive! This will be especially useful for B and C track teachers getting ready for July!!

June 28th, Wednesday 4-7 pm.

History Alive Training!

Many TCI trainings will be available for middle school teachers. There will be monthly trainings beginning in July for year round schools and in October for traditional. July 31-Aug 2nd in Torrance, Ca.

African Artifacts Service Learning. Artifacts were donated to Dr. Rousseau before she retired from LD7.

These museum quality pieces are being developed into a Service Learning Project whereby high school sophomores studying Africa will teacher 7th graders using African artifacts. Mr. Clinton from Locke H.S. will pilot this project. We are looking for one or two more teachers to participate. Ron Wilkins, from Cal State Dominguez Hills, is our consultant.

I Bet You Didn’t Know!?

Next school year, 2006-07, “content leads” from each school will replace our “cadre members”. These content area leads will serve the professional development needs at the school site and meet monthly as did the cadre members.

History Cadre

The History Cadre met on May 31st and enjoyed a presentation by the UCLA National Center for the Teaching of History. All cadre members received all the middle or high school primary source lessons that UCLA has developed with teachers. Please ask your cadre representative or chair to share these with you!!

Lasagna was served!!

Mr. Lay from Markham Middle School introduced Ms. Bautista, as a new member to our LD7 cadre. Welcome!

Next Meeting: June 22nd 4-7 pm. LD7 --- Presentation by Teacher Created Materials on Primary Sources. All members will receive CD Roms and instructional guides for use with the photos and videos from primary sources.
